I would rather Conroy than many of the names that have been floated about this week. Iam sure he has his own ideas on the way he wants things done, all new managers like to make there mark by changing things, hopefully his wil be to get us younger and faster as a team.

I get that he's a former player and was the assistant, and he is a really good guy... but what has he done to warrant this? He's been the assistant GM for a very average team. What successes has he had?
Again, I hope for the best, but this just seems to be a really "meh" hire to me.

I don't get the Iginla talk. I love the guy as much as everybody else, but what exactly has he done to be added to the staff?
It's not that he's qualified yet, but if you can teach him he would be a great figure to have around the organization again. Not that you've suggested so, but having Iginla won't turn it into an old boys club or anything, he's respected and if he wants to be part of helping to turn things around here, he at least deserves the opportunity.
Conroy has earned this opportunity, and I think he will be really good. Also, hiring someone else probably results in him leaving, so that is part of the equation - if he has the skills, this was his time.

Now I'm just curious if they bring in more 'grey hair in the room' like Burke puts it, a senior advisor or something, or if they just stick with Maloney to be that guy
Lots of interesting names out there for potential assistant gm's as well.
Next, name Love coach

It does seem similar to a lot of the old boys moves the Oilers made that people mocked.
This is different because Iginla is a great guy and not a dolt like Lowe though, LOL
It's not similar at all. Iginla is an icon for this organization, and bringing him back makes sense - every team does this.
The Oilers were mocked because their entire organization, and managerial hierarchy, was built on "Oiler greats'. They did it to a fault - beyond a fault - and as a result, it was deservedly criticized.
He's seen all of the mistakes this franchise has made in the last 20+ years and has probably thought of so many things he would do differently. It's time.

He has also learned from Brad Treliving and Brian Burke. I don't care what people think but I believe Brad was a top GM in the league.
Some continuity from that tree is great but he also brings his ideas. Hearing him talk openly I think he views things in a different way.
None of us sat in the interviews either so we don't know what plan he presented.
I'm excited to see what he is going to do.

I’d be curious if at the press conference if there are questions on how he’d do things differently and what his managing philosophy is. I hope he’s not a Tre retread doing the same mistakes. I hope he has some fresh ideas and the authority to carry them out.

I have no problem if Iginla is brought into the organization, especially if done so in a role that makes sense and allows him to learn. But of course it is similar.
This is good for the organization. Even in the tough times you want to have some continuity so you continue to learn and grow as a team.
The past season is a complete write-off, IMO. As others have said it was a perfect storm of terrible. Insert a new management team from top to bottom and get a fresh perspective in the coaching position.

This is such a bizarre take.
First, it isn't his fault the organization has been average - he wasn't in charge of it.
Second, what successes could he possibly have, as an assistant? What do you seriously expect here, that he fought Treliving to get his own way on some things? But here's the thing - that likely did happen, but from a fans' perspective, we'll never know.
When you evaluate assistants, you evaluate their skills and talents, and their intelligence for the job. You don't evaluate the organization they were with, because that wasn't on them.
Sure, who a person mentors with is important, but I don't think Treliving was the worst mentor, by any stretch.
