As someone who has never and probably will never partake in any civic Canada festivities, I believe this is why the UPC will win the election. The unending effort to award the gold medal in the oppression olympics proves just enough of the crazy fears to let people accept all of the otehr crazy fears.

This Jyoti-Notley-Singh-Trudeau alliance is out of hand!
But on a serious note; really?? If it's a truth and reconcilliation thing, then shouldn't we be stopping all celebrations for Canada Day? What makes it better having a drone/light show versus fireworks? Are we banning all fireworks related celebrations?
I thought for sure this would be wildfire related, which I could understand...
I thought for sure it was wild fire related when I clicked on the thread. It makes 100% sense and you could have had everyone on board and no one would have raised a stink, given what is going on in the province.
Instead, I am leaving confused as to exactly what the reasoning is. Unsurprisingly, I have already seen multiple accounts popping up online with racist remarks against aboriginals blaming them for ruining Canada Day celebrations. Like, did nobody think this through? Way to give more ammo to the bigots out there.

I was 100% sure when I saw the thread title, that this would be related to wildfire risk.
I’m all for righting the wrongs of the past and learning from them to strive to provide equality of opportunity and respect to all.
But this? What does anyone hope to achieve by it other than to drive further wedges between people?
Whether a firework show happens or not does nothing at all to provide practical benefit to anybody. If anything, it only serves to move the needle in the wrong direction.
Cut the virtue signalling garbage and actually do something that positively affects the lives of those you only claim to care about.

I highly doubt 'culture' had much to do about this. Most of the complaining about fireworks comes from people with dogs who freak out when they go off.
When you include 'culture' it just gives everyone a chance to complain that they are taking away our own culture as in this thread. Bad communications.
That said - the light show will probably be cool and no one really cares about fireworks anyways - they just want to see something cool happen in the sky.
