Pettersen gets scratched often. I would be surprised if he's back next season.

Going to piggyback on the Solovyov pick. Most underrated prospect in the system.

Splitting hairs, but Jooris didn’t actually make the opening night roster in 2014. He had a terrific camp and was the first callup when there were a couple of injuries — he ended up playing a lot with Gaudreau early on which really padded his stats that season…

Are you trying to cast doubt on the legitimacy of his his honour?

Yeah he's not going to make it. He is an all offense player that can't generate enough at an NHL or really even AHL level. Seems like he could excel in a European league.

This "award" needs to be more of an energy/speed guy IMO. Jooris, Hathaway, Duehr types.

The only player that I can recall making it, without being an energy/speed type, is Roman Horak.

That's a good one. He was a surprise.

Nah, I was a big Jooris fan during his rookie season. I do think the "opening night roster" requirement isn't necessary though -- last year's clear winner should have been Walker Duehr even though he started the year in the AHL and technically played one NHL game the previous season.

So does Poirier and he's supposed to be our best d prospect. I won't be surprised when he's back next season.

Going back a few year, but David Moss perhaps.

So who were our "darkhorses" in the past that kind of surprised us all? Just trying to have some fun with this so don't crucify me with this list.

2015 Ferland
2017 Hathaway
2018 Mangiapane
2019 Dube?
2020 ?
2021 Ruzicka?
2022 Duehr?

Kevin LaVallee made the Flames as a newly-drafted second rounder.
