Even if he does all that if Sutter is still coach he will ride the pine while Markstrom gets 98% of the starts. Not ideal.

Sutter is hinting he will coach his last game with this decision?

Definitely should play Coronato, Pelletier, Wolf, Zary as they are key pieces of the not too distant future.

I hope we see Pelletier, Ruzicka, and Duehr as well. Let all the young guns play.

Pretty straightforward. If we want to get the most out of an old roster, we keep Sutter. If we want to move into the future with the growing pains that accompany young players playing meaningful minutes, then you move on to a guy like Mitch Love.
I think we need to go with future and try to get Kadri and Huberdeau to mesh with these kids while they're still decent NHLers.

Nice to see Sutter is actually giving the kids an opportunity here. I half expected him to play the vets - namely those who aren't returning - in a pointless game.

Sutter isn’t doing jack####, especially providing opportunities to anyone. Providing opportunity would have been playing these guys when the games mattered rather than using useless veterans that did nothing but contribute to losses. Sutter wasted a year of development and opportunity for this organization. #### him.

So Ruzicka, Pelletier, Duehr, Gilbert don’t count?

The rule is in place to prevent NHL teams from sending down a bunch of ringers for the AHL playoffs once the NHL team is eliminated. It's also likely there to protect ELC players from being sent down just for the playoffs after playing the whole season in the NHL.
After the trade deadline, you can only send players on NHL contracts to the AHL who were on the AHL roster at the deadline, or who were under contract but playing in a league other than the NHL (like junior) at the deadline. Also, players without active NHL contracts can be sent to the AHL on a "try out".
William Stromgren signed an NHL contract that starts next season, so he was able to go to the Wranglers on an ATO. Because Coronato's contract starts this season, he doesn't qualify for the ATO.
The rule wasn't likely written with players like Coronato in mind, but as an NHLPA member, he gets the same protection from being sent down as any other NHLer.

Duehr and Gilbert aren't really young guys. They'll be 26 and 27 this year, respectively.
As for the other two ... you seen them around lately?

So disingenuous to say the Flames gave rookies a real shot. Outside of Duehr, no. Just no.

Can’t wait for Wolf to pitch a shutout and Coronato to show instant chemistry with Huberdeau in the form of a hat trick.
