I'm guessing it means they don't have a dedicated person covering sports anymore, and that they'll treat sporting events like other news stories, and they'll just send the regular news reporter to cover anything significant. Still sad to see as that most likely means less local and amateur sports exposure, but maybe they'll send out guys like Gil Tucker to do more of those?

Growing up in Lacombe I got the best of both worlds - Sports Night from Edmonton with Darren Dutchyshen and Perry Solkowski and Sports at 11:00 with Lownsbrough, Toth, and the rest. Such a fun era of sports television in this province.

Cami Kepke just announced that Global (2&7) will no longer be covering sports in their news telecasts anymore.

Tonight's sportcast was the last one ever. Since I was a kid this was the only local station I followed especially due to Sports at 11. They had so many key sports people in Calgary. Ed Whalen, Ron Mclean, Grant Pollock, Mike Toth, Mike Lownsborough, Ron Manz, Ryan Leslie and Brendan Parker.

I PVR Global News every night and most times I don't even watch the sports segment so it was probably something that was underperfoming. Still it's kind of sad that it is gone.
Jim van Horne too , back in the day
