Some potentially interesting big time openings. Toronto Calgary and Philadelphia. 3 organizations that apparently have hands on ownerships.

You knew the Flyers were doomed when the marching orders were to aggressively re-tool and not rebuild. That's just openly saying "we don't have the patience to build a good team so we're going to be impatient and try and be competitive for a low playoff spot"
It's why we know the Canucks are doomed. It's why we're doomed (until we change direction...).
Being impatient as a person or organization is not a virtue.

First step taken in the Flyers acquiring Gaudreau. Fletcher seemingly had no interest in him, no matter how hard Gross pushed him for the years leading up to JG free agency.
Still may be a couple seasons, but it will happen.

Everyone would immediately realize how competent Tre is haha. The only Sutter guy that might be okay is Lombardi.

Not making Gaudreau an offer may be seen as a negative there, but really, in the current state of that team and its current life cycle, was it? Does it not have the same issues as the ones Huberdeau contract critics here complain of?

I would hope the organization understands that the GM is here for the long term and Sutter is a short term fix.
If they are fixated on making him gm or having a gm being an extension of him we are doomed. He left us in tatters once, why not do it again?
I hope we doing everything we can to sign Treliving to a long term extension.

Steinberg seems to believe that Treliving won't be back. He doesn't speculate often, but when he does, it seems like he hears whispers from the org.

Sutter has 3 more years after this one, I think? Maybe 2? Thats plenty of time to install a GM of his choosing to shoot for a cup win if ownership truly believes Sutter is the guy to do it. Heck, they might extend him a few more years after those 2.
I'm on your side though. I'd rather see Treliving extended if these are the options. That said, I honestly have no idea what the options truly are.

His orders were to re-tool, not to tank.

It's not from today, just something he's mentioned a couple times on Flames Talk

I came into this thread to post both of these things.
If he does leave, he may not want to go to another organization with hands-on ownership. Although, is Flyers ownership still really hands-on since Snider died?

I mean if he didn’t want to hire Sutter and has been told he is the guy then I think he walks as well. It is too bad as he was really good at getting value on players and there will be some re-tooling this summer

He was bad at his job in Minnesota and probably didn't deserve another GM job. Headscratcher he was hired in the first place in Philly.

Yeah Chuck sucked in Minny as well.
That's the scary part as a flames fan. If Treliving walks the options available are terrible including Chuck who's dad worked for us.

I doubt that Calgary would be Trelivings first choice if he has options elsewhere.
Toronto would likely be his first choice if they make him an offer.

I liked Burkie's pitch to ownership groups lol.
"There are two hands on the steering wheel & both of them should be ####ing mine. If one of them is not mine, we're gonna have a problem."
The best ownerships are the ones who sign the paychecks and literally have nothing else to do with the running of the org itself

You know...I'm not sure how much I'd want that Toronto job to be honest.
They have really depleted their draft picks from 2023-2025 with only 5 picks in the first 4 rounds over the next three years.
Matthews is a UFA after next season. As is Nylander.
Tavares and Marner UFA's the season after.
Could be a tough situation in Toronto over the next 24 months with a lot of high profile UFAs, and no draft capital.
