Oof. That was a full on slash to the head. That better be more than just a fine. What an asshat.

That's pretty bold of Teal Town USA to try and sell that as an understandable reaction in frustration, by Hertl, after the menacing 'cross-check' to the arm from Lindholm.

They aren't wrong. Not suggesting for one moment that Hertl's actions were justified, but I can totally see someone taking a swipe in reaction to those cross checks. Ain't no padding there, those hurt.

look again - Lindholm had almost stopped the forward momentum of it by the time it contacted Hertl's arm

Also, they conveniently left out the first part - Hertl wasn't an innocent victim up until the face slash

It was 2 guys battling a bit, after a face off, and one guy escalated it way too far

Lindholm isn't an innocent victim either.

Your post was calling our TealTownUSA's attempt to sell Hertl's reaction by minimizing Lindholm's actions by using air quotes.

Yeah, they were going at it back and forth. Who started what, I don't know, but you see this sort of thing in games all the time as players try to entice others into taking penalties. What you don't see are two-handed slashes to the head. That should have been viewed as an intent to injure.

I'm primitive enough to have played at a time where that initially was just two guys having it out....when the two guys are in close and these jabs to the ribs...still hurts and worth a call. But reaching out as the other guy is pulling away and it's more of a chop that's a bit excessive.

In this case probably a fine. He's likely angry after the play because Lindholm went towards the play and he ended up reaching to get him back. Stupid Hertl.

lol...there is a MASSIVE difference between crosschecks that happen every shift and taking a swing at a guys head...also that is conveniently edited Hertl is dishing some out before that too its a battle off the faceoff

Given this is the NHL I assume the outcome of Hertl's hearing will be a one game suspension to Lindholm.

A cross check which happens in every game vs a guy wildly clubbing someone in the face that could have potentially got him in the eye.

He should be suspended for a few games, dirty play.

I think Hertl wanted to duck out early for Christmas break. He's on a bad team thats going nowhere this season. He should be forced to play double the shifts until the end of December.... still probably won't get as much ice time as McDrai

Few games was what I guessed he deserves it.

Dangerous play. Luckily Lindholm wasn't injured seriously.

2 games, wow. I expected either a fine or maybe 1 game.

A rare, good decision from them

I'm shocked the NHL gave a poop about a Flames player.

Didn't draw blood, but the intent was there. Good call by DoPS. Bad call by the on-ice refs.

Did Hertl have any previous suspensions? There was an incident of a questionable hit on Kulikov a few years back, but couldn't find out if he got suspended. Surprised he got two for this, but if the goal is to get dangerous habits like potential blows to the head out of the game this makes sense. Often in those cross checking motions there is an upward swing which halts when the upper arm is contacted. But those can be dangerous when that initial contact point moves up to the head/neck area.

It looks like it is his first suspension. From the things coming up in google from their local sites, this is the first time he is suspended or fined.
