Does he have to clear waivers if/when they send him back down?

Good, now put him in a position to succeed.

Awesome. Hope he crushes it. He has to treat this like his last chance to make the NHL and every stride has to be full bore.

No. They have the cap space and roster space to call him up without doing any other moves.

Sutter may be criticised for having tunnel vision when it comes to young players, but he is pretty good at putting them into positions to succeed. He did it with Kylington. He did it with Dube. He's doing it now with Ruzicka.

I think I was actually right.
A player does not need to pass through waivers if the player has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, OR has not played in 10 or more NHL games. CBA Reference 13.2(b) (Despite the CBA reference saying 30 days AND 10 games, the rule is actually 30 days OR 10 games)
source - capfriendly

No, they've had both the roster and cap space for a call-up since Stone came off IR and Gilbert was sent down.

One thing I don't want to see/hear? Him being sat the entire time and the GM saying "being around the team is good for his development"
Play the guy.

He can be on the NHL roster for a maximum of 30 days or 10 games played before he needs to clear waivers again.

He would need to clear waivers again if he spends more than 30 days on the NHL roster or plays 10 NHL games.
And that is cumulative among multiple call ups.

Agreed. Have to wonder if someone in the top nine is banged up. The lines are clicking right now so I imagine if anyone needs some rest, he’ll just fill in for them. Think the most likely spot for him would be on Backlund’s line.

For all the heat the Ol’ Rancher has taken for not giving young/small players a chance, you have to admit that there’s a massive amount of method behind the madness. Call a young local kid up while the team is in disarray and the fans are going nuts? Not very fair to the call up. Bring him in when we’ve won 4 of 5 and you’re heading out of town? Far more likely to succeed and far less pressure. In Sutter we still trust.

Hope they start him against Gaudreau, and out-duels him. That would be glorious. Or fights him. I am ok with that too, and I am not in the camp that Gaudreau screwed over the Flames. It would just be something to see.
