Probably discussed somewhere but is Ritchie injured or still healing from his earlier injury?
He has been rather good for a 4th line guy and surprised if he is the odd man out.

Got to ride the hot hand in vladar. Can’t look past coyotes. With the bad start we need these 2 points.

again, I am not saying that I disagree with Vladar getting the start, I am just saying that I am surprised that Sutter isn't taking the opportunity to get Markstrom some work
he has to play at some point - Vladar hasn't played more than 25 games in a season since 2018, he isn't going to suddenly play 10 games in a month

Morning show said Lewis can't take faceoffs right now (minor injury I'm guessing), so they wanted Rooney in the middle. Lewis still stays in because of his PK ability.
Ritchie might have some injury too though.

Some perspective from someone who follows the Coyotes really closely:
Arizona is on a 14-game road trip and they've managed to keep things pretty competitive. They're 4–5–2 on it so far and they have yet to allow more than four goals in a game since the start of the swing, so they won't be a pushover. They've beaten teams like Toronto, Carolina, Washington, and Florida this season.
The two guys I'd really be looking closely at out there are Matias Maccelli and Lawson Crouse. Maccelli has blossomed into a Calder Trophy candidate this season and is legitimately one of the top young playmakers in the NHL. He played with Valimaki back in Tampere and the two are very close — I genuinely think Valimaki being reunited with Maccelli is part of the reason why he's playing so well with the Coyotes. For Crouse — he's starting to look like the guy the Panthers thought they were getting when they drafted him. He's big, he's fast, and he can really shoot the puck. Reminds me a little bit of Josh Anderson when he was in Columbus.
Jakob Chychrun and Nick Schmaltz both returned from injury a couple weeks ago and have looked straight-up excellent since coming back. Easily the Coyotes' most impactful players right now. Chychrun has a bomb from the point and is clearly doing what he can to showcase himself for a trade; Schmaltz is incredibly skilled and also has a really good shot. Clayton Keller is also a legit threat out there but he's slowed down a little of late — we'll see if he can pick it up tonight.
If Karel Vejmelka is in goal, the Flames will be in tough. He's been outstanding to start the year — 6-6-3, .913 — and has almost singlehandedly elevated the Coyotes to being a .500 team when he's in net. Connor Ingram is his backup, and while he's clearly talented, he's been a little more shaky. So, we'll see.
Other guys to keep an eye on:
- Dylan Guenther
- J.J. Moser
- Shayne Gostisbehere
The Yotes are a young, fun team. Hoping to see a close game tonight — will be at the Dome wearing my Schmaltz jersey, lol. Let's say 4–3 Flames.

Schmaltz is a winger. But yeah, arguably.
Chychrun – Gostisbehere
Moser – Valimaki
Nemeth – Stecher
Brown
They've been running 11/7 of late. This is what I'd expect.

I think that might represent a point of no return for Markstrom. Saying that last week basically told Sutter that he doesn't even want the net right now. Watch Sutter now ride Vladar until he breaks. He demonstrated last year he has no patience for load management for goalies. His mentality is basically what tender provides his best chance of winning tonight's game period.

Let’s get going on a winning streak here. 6-1 Flames with Backlund having another 3 point night.

Their are cap implications but it would be interesting to see what Radim Zahorna could do. 16 points in 20 gm on the farm. Take Rooney out as he is obsolete. Big body and plays centre. Older guy as well. 26 yrs.

I was wondering about that. Rooney got kicked out of a faceoff last game and I thought Lewis would take over. It ended up being Lucic instead.

1. I like this.
2. Hopefully Markstrom goes Roman Turek and renegotiates his contract. (If that's even allowed anymore.)
It's not that I don't like Markstrom. I think he's awesome, and I'd love for him to rebound back into form... although I'm always going to wonder if another crash is right around the corner.
It's more that I like the idea of us having younger, cheaper goalie that blows the doors off the league and carries us kicking and screaming into the finals. Although, we would still need an Iggy to drag everything that Vladar (Kipper) is carrying.
