The lightning outlined numbers really add to the overall cheese level. You have to assume they are purposely being bad/cheesy with these.

Shouldn't it be the opposite?

Fair amount of competitive matchups along the way. See how they do.

Hopefully +.900 goaltending from Markstrom is on the trip.
I don't know who all has said it, but I first heard it from Peter Maher only a couple of years after the lockout shortened season.

I am not sure how applicable that saying is anymore though. At least there seem to be teams that buck that trend more often. The most immediate example the comes to mind is the St.Louis Blues the year they won the cup where they were putrid all the way until January and just turned course 180 degrees.

He missed his chance and couldn't get it back. Explains why he missed those games.

I spoke to Jonathan #Huberdeau in the last few days. The discussion veered off to his start to the season with the #Flames and Darryl Sutter's statements about him. "I didn't go to the toilet" - said Huberdeau in a diplomatic tone.

The loser point has really changed things, I don't think US Thanksgiving matters, and it seems pretty early in the season anyways. If you are .500 or better you should still have a chance, if you are floundering like the Blue Jackets and Canucks you are probably cooked.

Poor guy. Rough start, everything that goes with a big life change, and Sutter (literally) sewers him.

I'd go with Vladar tonight for no other reason than it would give Markstrom a full 4 days off, and it has been a week since Vladar last played. He was very good the last time out against Boston.

Is it just me or is the media trying to create a story of discourse between Sutter and Huberdeau over the sh*t comment? First, that was a while ago and, second, it was pretty clear to me that comment was Sutter's way of saying "don't ask about injuries" to the press. Why does it keep coming up?

'Clicks' much of our media today is more about sensationalism and pandering than due diligence and accurate reporting, today's mainstream media is lazy and apathetic.

The whole US Thanksgiving thing is just so over done. And it is vastly overvalued. It really tells you nothing.

There are 8-10 teams that we can be pretty certain before the season starts are going to make the playoffs. And since they are good teams, they have probably already risen into the top half of the league at the 20 game mark.

At the same time, there are 8-10 teams that we know aren't going to make it. And those teams are likely already settling into the lower half of the league by the 20 game mark.

It's really only the middle 10-12 teams that are of any consequence. And the ones that get off to a good start are the ones that are probably going to have a good season and make it. The 'good start' will probably predict 4 of the 6 available spots most years.

That means that we should expect about 13-14 of the 16 teams that hold a spot at the 20 game mark, to be the teams that make it (which is about what we see).

Even if the middle group is completely random, it is still going to have 3 of the 6 correct, on average.

So have we learned anything? No, not really.

Plus, despite all this, if a team plays poorly the rest of the way, they'll fall out. And if a team plays well the rest of the way, they will make it. In other words, team status at the 20 game mark is irrelevant, and any team can change their status by playing well (or poorly).

In other words, it tells us nothing (that we didn't already know)
