lol wut? See all the other links / discussions in this thread.
Most articles up to, say, Sunday, were falsely implying that 15,000 had been sentenced to death. Hell even Trudeau tweeted about it erroneously.
Google search it with it limited to dates before Sunday to see

Literally the one Newsweek article that says “could face” is the entire basis of your “the headlines!” “Media gonna media!” laziness?
Kind of weak.

Do you bother to read past the headline? (that has also since been updated) It's so easy to fool people, no wonder fake news catches on so easily.
Here's the actual Newsweek article and updated title:
Iran Protesters Refuse to Back Down as First Execution Sentence Handed Down
Quote:
Nationwide protests continue in Iran for the 53rd straight day, despite nearly 15,000 Iranians having been arrested in connection to the demonstrations, who could now potentially face harsh punishments including the death penalty.
On November 13, an unidentified protester received the death penalty in the first instance of that sentence coming in the trials against people who were arrested for demonstrating. Five others were given jail time between five and 10 years, according to state media Mizan.
|
Quote:
Correction 11/15/22, 12:05 p.m. ET: This article and headline were updated to remove the reference to the Iranian Parliament voting for death sentences. A majority of the parliament supported a letter to the judiciary calling for harsh punishments of protesters, which could include the death penalty.
Update 11/15/22, 9:10 a.m. ET: This article was updated to add news of the first death penalty issued against a protester on November 13.

How dare anyone suggest that western media has been anything but exceedingly fair and balanced in how its portrayed Iran to the western world. These are islamic barbarians that need bombs, lots and lots of bombs, lest they be consumed by their all encompassing hatred of western freedoms and hot dogs.

Yeah, CC getting duped by dubious sources is pretty much a weekly ritual on CP these days.

CaptainCrunch starts a thread citing a tweet from the leader of our country, the story ends up being BS.
Rather than attacking Trudeau for tweeting false information to his 6.3 million followers people here attack CC for not verifying the source and sharing it with the hundreds? of followers of this subforum.
Who saw that coming?

Is there anything positive about the current regime in Iran? This story isn't correct, but that doesn't change the fact they are downright awful.
The 15000 number was totally made up, but Iran has started handing out death sentences to the protestors:

Great so now we know the Prime Minister is a dubious source of information.
Hey I posted the tweet of the leader of our country, I assumed that it might be a at least verified source of information you know with the backing of foreign affairs and CSIS and all that.

I'm with you. Pretty irresponsible of Trudeau or whoever manages his Twitter. You should be able to trust an official Tweet from an account owned by the PM.

Yeah, I'll walk that back and apologize. The tweet was deleted by the time I opened the thread and I had no idea it was Trudeau who posted it.

CC posts something I think many people would have done in error, and half the thread goes at him like he's the worst and did it on purpose.
Maybe a little self reflection is in the books for a few of you?

3 divided by 2 is 1.5, 7 divided by 2 is 3.5… 3.5 - 1.5 (aka 50%) is…. 2.
Damn sorry you’re right Wasted, I forgot to do the new math.
