That last bit is the important one.
I never did anything as a kid remotely close to this:

"Miller and a classmate were found guilty of forcing a developmentally disabled black classmate to eat a piece of candy that had been wiped inside a urinal, repeatedly bullied the victim, including kicking and punching him, and repeatedly calling the victim the N-word."

So eff him. Being a pro hockey player is a million to 1 shot. Being an NHL player even slimmer.

I don't see why he should be one of the lucky few to get that shot.
Eff him. Ban him from pro hockey for the rest of his life.

But hey, you probably know more than what Sweeney, Neely and the Bruins did by reading twitter.

This is exactly my point.

One strike you are out.

If this is the type of strike then yes. You are out. At least in terms of having the opportunity to play in the NHL. He can find something else to do for a career

And killing someone is ok?

Where is the line? Who decides? What does appropriate rehabilitation look like?

This guy doesn’t understand the difference between an awful lapse of judgement with horrific consequences, vs a decade of intentional sociopathic racist behaviour with no remorse or reflection.

He was between 8 and 14 years old when it happened.

Saying his dreams are over won't help rehabilitate him, it will just radicalize him and make him even more hateful.

the lack of remorse part is key IMO. It'd be a completely different situation if he had generally shown honest remorse and empathy towards the victim, but as per the victim's family, that hasn't happened. And to me, that whole "he was a kid" thing flies out of the window if he can't apologize for it as an adult.

Sounds like he’s an idiot. Even if he has no remorse how has he not figured out at least making it look like you do would be a huge step to getting back towards your dream.

Okay, settle down. There's no need for the silly potshots. That doesn't help a discussion at all.

Frank Seravalli isn't some basement blogger, he has connections and is well known in hockey circles. If what he is posting is true then there is a good chance the Bruins have lied about their due diligence in this case.

As for your last sentence, if he has not shown remorse or apologized to all the parties involved then yes, one strike and you are out imo.

This kid doesn’t deserve to be signed to a NHL contract. He can go work and do something else while trying to have a normal life or go to Europe if they will have him but he should be no where near the NHL.

NHL players should be role models as community involvement and positive messaging are keys for the young demographic. Miller was a vicious bully of a very vulnerable individual and has seemingly only “apologized” and “reformed” because his disgusting act look to cost him his dream that so few get to live out in their lives.

Very bad look for Boston right now

So the answer is to simply excuse the behaviour of someone who has shown no remorse or accountability for what he has done.

It's all on him.

I think most people on this thread who want to ban him for life is based mostly on his lack of remorse and accountabilty, not on what he did as a teenager.

He needs to show he has learned from this. The rehabilitation should have already started.

unrelated to Mitchell but I'm not sure that's actually what prisons do.

Quality contribution.
Clearly I care about the situation and the ramifications of it, not him as a human being.
But again, great contribution to the discussion. top drawer.

Depends how good you are at playing hockey really

If Bettman and Katz found out today that McDavid was a murderer, but only they knew... what do you think would come of that?

There is an interesting discussion on what restorative justice looks too.

He went to juvenile hall. That is jail for children.

And jail is typically punitive, not rehabilitative.
