It will happen. Just keep telling yourself that and try to keep the positive vibes going
I found an even bigger milestone was when they could make it to the bathroom and vomit in the toilet!! There is nothing worse than the 2 AM vomit clean up!!

We're going to tackle potty training soon with our 2 year old but I want to know more about vomit training. At least she pisses in a diaper.

As a parent I find the "waiting till their ready" is a cop-out for lazy parenting. (Guilty) All over the world they potty train far younger than we do in North America. AFC nailed it, diapers are too comfortable, why would you bother?

Why would you want to potty train earlier? Yeah, it’s possible but not a great idea. Their bladders are so small that they have to go pee every 10 minutes. My brother potty trained himself when he was under 2 because my sister was. Only problem was he couldn’t make it to the bathroom in time sometimes.

Lol. That is ridiculous. How many 5 year olds #### or piss themselves other than by accident ? Eventually they get to an age where they don’t enjoy it and they figure out that being covered in excrement sucks. The only reason to really rush it is if your daycare, home
Or school requires it.

You agreed with the post you quoted as to the cause. Kids don’t feel like they cover in piss so therefore they don’t potty train.

The biggest driver for potty training is so you are cleaning smeared #### of your child

Some kids are ready at 2. We trained one of our daughters at 2 and it only took her a couple days to figure it out. Minimal incidents.

Scheduling potty breaks was the one thing that worked best for us.

Let your kid know that every morning, when they wake up, they need to go pee in the toilet.

Then put them on the toilet every 1.5 hours or so. Even if they don't go, get them used to it.

Give them a reward for each pee in the toilet and a bigger reward for poop.

We potty trained both our kids at around the same age as your little one.

This was the key for us. Our son mastered urine quite quickly. Mastering feces proved much more challenging.

My 3 year old is not completely potty trained yet either. He knows when to go pee but he will poop in a diaper only.

We are trying each weekend to get him to poop but so far its been several failed attempts.

We are being patient with it as he started telling us when he has to pee on his own so hoping that the poop indication will come soon.

And that age is far younger than we've normalized in North America. Toddlers have better control of their bowels than we give them credit for. The only reason many continue to use diapers is because we normalize it. From the day their born we teach them to use diapers to go the bathroom so of course they're happy to continue to use the diaper - they don't know any better.

Within this thread, most of the parents here were likely potty trained far earlier than they plan to potty train their kids.

But once upon a time, Americans didn’t find that statistic odd. In fact, in 1957, 92% of American children were potty trained by 18 months. So, what changed?

It also empowers your kid, saves you money and takes diapers out of the landfill. The only reason to delay it is if you're lazy or don't have the time. (My wife and I are part of that group, it's hard to find the time when diapers are so convenient and we're both working full time. That doesn't mean our daughter isn't ready, it means we're not ready.)
