He doesn’t even need to steal the game. Just don’t let in a soft goal as that would be a big upgrade on his play this season.
I don't think the issue is the soft goal tally, it's the not making a difference.
The goal against Vegas was a doozy, but I don't really have him with any others.
His goals saved above average pretty much supports that too at -.6 ... So he's given up a half goal more than the average goaltender should have through 7 periods of hockey.
Now that's not glowing ... he shouldn't be aiming for average, but it's not a windfall of weak goals going past him.

I have a feeling that Slavin lays down some Holy Spirit tonight. 3 points, I’m calling it

The CMC trade has almost singlehandedly made me hate football so I am in desperate need of a Canes win tonight.

The Canes look to right the ship against another Cup contender.
Loose defensive play blunted Svech’s first regular season hat trick on Thursday. Leaving Leon Draisaitl uncovered in the slot is never a good idea. I suspect we’ll see Raanta in goal tonight.
Like the Canes, the Flames allowed 6 on Thursday, losing to the Slugs 6-3. They have a revamped first line with Lindholm between Huberdeau and Toffoli. Kadri centers the 2nd line with Dube and Mangiapane. Lindholm, Mangiapane, Toffoli and Backlund each have 2 goals. Huberdeau and Kadri lead with 4 assists. Neither goalie has been very good, both Markstrom and Vladar have a GAA over 3 and a save % below .900. Markstrom was pulled after the 1st period on Thursday after allowing 3 goals on 12 shots.

This will be an interesting game to watch as far as adjustments are concerned. The issue that I believe that the Canes had against Edmonton was that they fell into the trap of playing the Oilers' style of hockey, rather than dictating their own terms. Because the Canes lack true mega-superstars like Matthews or McDrai in their forward group, this IMO is not a team that does all that well in high-scoring/low-defense contests. Will the Canes go back to their game against the Flames?

I think thats just the issue, the guy being paid 6 million is being outperformed on the other end. We need better than average from Markstrom or he will sink the team's confidence in front of him.

Which is pretty much what I said wasn't it?
I was replying to someone that said reduce the soft goal a game is already an improvement. Don't think that's the case.
He's been very average. He should be better than average. But he's not giving up 1.5 weak goals per game.
Yeah, Markstrom has only had the one bad goal - and every goalie gets those once in a while. The problem so far is that he hasn't made the great saves - all (or too many) of the good scoring chances are going in.
The other team will get good scoring chances, sometimes you need your goalie to bail you out. And so far, there has been more of that at the other end than there has been in the Flames' crease.
