Oof. Bit of a break down in communication between Tre => Peter Hanlon => Meloche. He shouldn't have been allowed to do that interview.

I thought Meloche looked okay. A defensive defenceman shouldn't really stick out.

Eric Francis had talked about how the Flames gave Meloche the assignment to go over a bunch of Gudbranson game tape and become their "next Gudbranson".

Unsure if this is a reflection of where he was at with that.

Maybe the interview was part of the ruse.

I don’t imagine Flames want to lose him. Valimaki didn’t impress and is gone. No idea when OK will play. Mackey has been ok but not a revelation.

This guy was signed for a reason and seems like most of these reasons are in place.

He was signed to compete with Stone and Mackey for spots 7 and 8. Team clearly likes what they brought over Meloche. No big deal.

I can't say I really noticed Meloche at all, which isn't necessarily bad when talking about defensemen.

I think he basically replaces Connor Mackey in the system. A tweener you can call up and down as needed, with potential to be a full time depth player eventually. I hope he doesn't get picked up because it is always good to have someone like that in the wings.

Completely different players. Mackey has upside to be a decent #5 two way defenseman.

I don’t know how much upside there is in Mackey tbh. He, Meloche and Stone are all possibly “tweeners”. Meloche is the youngest though.

I think Mackey is a much better puck-mover than Meloche, faster too.

You’re totally right. And it’s not cruel at all… there are tons of players who thought they’d make it this year but we’re waived. Probably wouldn’t have dressed, he’s not missing anything by being sent down. It’s part of the job.

I don't think this is embarrassing the player at all as he's simply illustrating how cruel the business can be. It's not like it's a secret that Meloche is on waivers and all players in his position know the business well. It is you that is insinuating that this is egg on the face of the player. Are you trying to say he's unaware of the business or different than any other NHL hopeful that got placed on waivers the past few weeks? Players all over the league have been dealing with news like this over the past few weeks. It's not egg on their face as it's the reality of professional team sports.

The media asked Meloche his feelings about making Calgary's roster, then the media says that he jumped the gun. I see only one problem.

He wasn’t even playing much. He obviously wasn’t playing opening night.

A bunch of teams had reporters jump all over the Cody Glass video looking for their own moment.

Looks like he is making $950K whether he plays in Calgary or... Calgary. I'm sure at that salary expectations were he would be on an NHL roster, there must have been some competition for him.
