If Valimaki is claimed, the Flames will get an extra $425,000 in cap space compared to him clearing and being sent to the AHL.

I really don't know if he is still hampered by injuries or what is to blame really. His NHL dream isn't over though, he just really need to make it happen in the AHL this year.
Nothing about his play on the ice screams NHLer yet so anyone claiming him better be prepared for some big time struggles.

All the best to Valimaki. If he gets claimed I hope he can have a fresh start somewhere and make it someday.

Really disappointing camp from Pelletier not grabbing a top 9 spot, Valimaki looking like a career AHLer, Zohorna not making the most of his opportunity and the PTOs both being junk.
I did enjoy seeing Zary's progression though.

Most likely scenario for Valimaki is that he clears, and if there's a trade possibility the Flames will have to eat some salary.

Taking a while to get to 5000

I honestly thought they would give Zahorna a longer look, meaning he'd be on the opening night roster if not in the lineup. Guess they'd seen enough.
Also fire that scout who recommended him.

Two games in four nights with new line mates and systems is not a legitimate opportunity. The GM and coach obviously have varying opinions on Zohorna.

Welp, gave Zoho a shot at least. Didn't show anything great and isn't really an upgrade on any of the callups from...Calgary. Boy, that's going to take some getting used to.
Valimaki will clear. There are scouts for these other teams, so the only way he gets claimed is if nobody has watched him in the last two years. There are plenty of prospects that have their stock drop after a while and Valimaki is no different. I've read hundreds of names over the last few years that were huge names right after the draft, but then passed through waivers without a whimper because teams realized they weren't going to be surefire NHLers.
It's unfortunate, but it happens all the time. I just hope that Juuso can improve a little on the farm team to be an adequate call up in case of injury.

Tbh, I hope Vali gets claimed. He might do better somewhere else. A change of scenery could be good for him

Do players have a better chance of clearing now, as opposed to a few days ago, as teams are tightening up their rosters?

If Zohorna clears (a big if) he could still remain with the main team.

Zahorna and Valimaki likely gone opens up some contract and cap space for Calgary. I wonder if we see a trade before Monday?

Its as much about cap room as it is roster size as anyone claiming him has to be below 23 roster players AND have cap space to add him.

Yeah, because teams have their own rosters and cap situations to worry about, it is more likely players will clear now.
Putting a claim on a player may mean exposing another to waivers or making a move to be cap and roster compliant.
So even if there are a lot of teams that like Valimaki for example, they may not have the flexibility to claim him.

Doubtful he gets claimed at that cap hit.

Monday noon is roster deadline. Depending on who clears, you might even see a Wrangler called up.

Not sure if Valimaki gets picked at that cap hit, but he does have draft pedigree. Meloche makes the squad.

I was under the impression that they can only place him directly in the AHL if they are the only team who puts in a claim.

I'd say yes, and Zohorna is a good example. The Flames were able to claim him and let him play a couple preseason games before they needed to make a spot on the final roster for him. Any team making a claim today pretty much needs to fit the player on their roster immediately, which likely means waiving someone else, so it starts to be a game of musical chairs.
