Came for the Capitol jokes....pretty satisfied.
Go and visit the Capitol, my understanding is that its open to the General Public and you dont even need to buy tickets!

I'll be at the Flames game in Raleigh on the 26th. Hurricanes are a good team and it promises to be a fun game. It's a Saturday late afternoon/early evening game so there might be some decent tailgating beforehand, and an evening to explore Raleigh depending on when you're leaving. Raleigh's a great food town, with fun breweries and bars if you're into that sort of thing.
It's a bit of a drive (~5 hours), but the traffic from DC to Raleigh is much better than the traffic from DC going north.

I plan on going to both games! I am stationed at Fort Bragg, so I am excited to see some Flames hockey again at close proximity. This is a good thread for me to look at.

Man I love DC. The Smithsonian museums are incredible. And free.
As are the rest of the sights around the National Mall. If I'm there as a tourist, usually stay just outside downtown like near the Pentagon and take the metro in. Super easy to get around, nothing like NYC which can be a little intimidating at first.

Word of note - we don't drive like people in Calgary here in DC. In DC, we basically drive like it's MadMax times and if you don't gun it right as the light changes, be prepared to be violently honked at.

LOL, that was my experience when I was there for sure. Thankfully I had been trained by the highways of California rush hour traffic, so I was well prepared. Now that I've been in Florida for so long with the absolute CRAZIEST drivers anywhere in the world, I'm pretty much impervious to driving stress.

It’s been a bit since I was there, but the museums on the National Mall are first-rate. The Metro is efficient and the restaurant scene is top-notch. And no matter what you think about American “involvement” in Vietnam (I was and still am vehemently against it), the Vietnam Memorial is a profoundly moving place.

It has been a few years, but we stayed pretty close to the rink, right by Chinatown and thought it was a great location. Could walk basically everywhere (it was a lot of walking though), so no worries about crazy drivers and traffic. You could easily spend a week taking in the museums and the mall, if you are into that sort of thing.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
