Heavy, heavy defensive zone starts the last two years. I’m curious what his quality of competition was.

Eakin has had one pretty good year in his last eight. Otherwise, his results have been poor. But ... who knows.

Definitely had his best season with Vegas in 18/19, 22 goals, 41 points. Since then there's barely any offense at all. Yes, I know he's a 4th liner. Who knows, maybe Sutter can squeeze one more decent year out of him. A little competition in training camp never hurt.

Cody Eakin would be a perfectly acceptable fourth-liner, in that he's inexpensive and nothing really happens for either team when he's on the ice.

I seem to recall him fighting Iggy right near the end of Iggys tenure here. So, there is that.

I don't entirely hate this as a PTO. I know so little about Rooney that I think a little competition for the 4th line center job is okay. I still haven't seen any signing news on Ruzicka...so there's that too. Maybe this lights a fire under him to sign a contract offer.

Ruzicka said in his interview with Hossa a couple of weeks ago that he expected to have a contract within the next couple of weeks. Unless they hit a snag, it should be done any day now.

As for Eakin, there is something seriously wrong with the bottom 3 forwards and prospects ready to make a jump if he actually gets a spot on the team. Maybe sign him as a 13th forward at the most, who only plays once every few games.

I really like this . He's got some jam to his game. He doesn't shy away from anyone, anything.

Yeah , he fought Iggy in 2013 and hes a competitor with a strong motor. I wouldnt be surprised if he makes this team and if he doesn't he'll have forced certain players to bring a higher caliber game.

This year everyone needs to bring more if we are going to make a push and impact in the playoffs and even then there's no guarantee we make the playoffs and make a deeper run.

Love the work being done behind the scenes as the Flames CANNOT be satisfied EVER in improving the roster .

Go Flames

I’ve always liked Eakin. Tough guy. Hard to play against.

And first I liked it, but then I saw the advanced stats. Ouch.

It's just a PTO. Good to have some competition. And I think he'd perform better under Sutter than most people would expect.
