Also, if you can sign Weegar now for 8 years around $7 mil vs sign Hanifin in 2 years for 8 years around $9 mil IMO this help with the cap wall the Flames will be hitting in a few years.

Hanifin doesn't have to move this year but I think it's the right move over then next year.
I don't think the Flames should be making any decisions based on some randos list.

IF Weegar looks really good though there is a case to be made for flipping Hanifin for the right deal...it would have to be a high end forward IMO so there would be that salary to deal with.

Not sure what Toews' advanced stats look like, but every time I watch him play I'm even more impressed with him than than I was the last time. I can't explain exactly why, but I just know he's really friggin good.

"Zone denial" might be my two favourite words to hear going into the season.

Toews definitely tilts the ice in his teams' favor when he's out there. He was a key pick-up by them.

With being able to send a pair with Weegar and then Tanev next, and then possibly the next pair being Hanifin and Andersson, what else could you ask for?

Can't wait to see how Sutter deploys the D.

Yeah, I think it was a case of perfect timing.

The Panthers had just got knocked out of the playoffs, too early, yet again. The GM felt he needed to make changes. Huberdeau and Weegar both need new contracts for next season and neither had a particularly great playoffs. Along comes an opportunity to acquire a player the he desperately covets. Boom! Perfect scenario to get a lot from him.

I've said it before, but if the trade were for Huberdeau straight up, or Huberdeau and a prospect, I would have considered that a really good trade under the circumstances.

If the trade had been for Weegar, Schwindt and a 1st, I would have considered that to be a really solid trade under the circumstances.

But getting ALL of the above was just beyond belief. Perfect scenario of everything coming together in just the right way and at just the right time.

Cali: I hear you, and I agree with your analysis. As KootenayFF said though, Weegar is an absolute stats darling. And jfresh is all about stats

I would be curious to see who is in the next tier, as I suspect it might be more comparable players to Weegar

Still seems crazy...they won a round for the first time in nearly 30 years and the presidents trophy.

Cant see them beating Tampa with the current roster

I think the Avs are the only team in the league that was beating Tampa last year

And my two least favourite words on a date.
