Yeah, I think it was a case of perfect timing.
The Panthers had just got knocked out of the playoffs, too early, yet again. The GM felt he needed to make changes. Huberdeau and Weegar both need new contracts for next season and neither had a particularly great playoffs. Along comes an opportunity to acquire a player the he desperately covets. Boom! Perfect scenario to get a lot from him.
I've said it before, but if the trade were for Huberdeau straight up, or Huberdeau and a prospect, I would have considered that a really good trade under the circumstances.
If the trade had been for Weegar, Schwindt and a 1st, I would have considered that to be a really solid trade under the circumstances.
But getting ALL of the above was just beyond belief. Perfect scenario of everything coming together in just the right way and at just the right time.
