In the US, but quick lube place by me was $19.99 for regular oil up until a year or so ago. Now it's $29.99. Full Synthetic is $90 which I get for my truck. Since I only have to change every 10k miles, great deal.

I drop mine off at the dealership once a year, and they change the oil as part of a maintenance package.

I buy a box of filters from Rockauto since 2 of my cars use the same one. Filter price usually works out to less than $5 each. Then I just wait for sales on the synthetic oil I use and buy a few of them to have on hand. Each oil change costs me less than $35 and its a nice way to spend a few mins on a Saturday. I recycle the used oil at a local drop off point.

Seriously the easiest car maintenance job.

I've switched from my favorite oil, Penzoil Platinum Full Synthetic to Castrol GTX Full Synthetic.

Castrol is available at Costco everyday for about $38/5L. So much more convenient than waiting for a Penzoil sale. Inevitably, I'd need to do an oil change when I didn't have any oil on hand.

It's $100 at the Valvoline Oil Change place down the street. Don't bother with any add-ons they offer.

I do it myself, I like my cars a lot, so I like the piece of mind knowing it's done properly. Good synthetic (Castrol, Mobil 1 or Penzoil) and an OE filter. Replace the gasket every time, replace the oil pan bolt with a magnetic one once the car gets a little older.

But for the people who view their car as just an appliance, I don't look down on them for going to a quick lube place every time. They don't care if the filter is stripped, the oil pan plug is missing a gasket and almost rounded off, and getting upsold on the price. It's jsut an annoyance they accept to keep their transportation reliable. And if the owner doesn't care, then I'm not going to fault them for it. As long as the car works, and tbf as long as you keep going back to the lube place, that's all their problem. (Well, until it isn't, but for most people it won't get to that point)

but if you're then selling that car used a few years later and tell me you've been going to a quick lube place for your changes, I'm probably walking away from the deal. I'm in the minority, you'll still have no problem selling, but I'm not interested

Just go to Mr. Lube and pay a slight premium for the convenience. They usually have $10-$15 sales, so it's usually around $90 or so (we do high millage). I think the comments that a place like that will mess up your car are way off base. They are warranty approved places, so while the quality can vary tech to tech, it's not like they will ruin your car. I'd say a person changing it themselves is more likely to mess it up than someone who does it as a job.
