It badly needed some variability on zone entries, he was expected to carry it in far far too often

I think that they go 4F then 3F, for two different looks.
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Kadri - Weegar
Pelletier - Dube - Toffoli
Kylington - Andersson
Gives some protection to the youngsters on PP2, and although there is no room for Dube at centre 5v5, I think that they still like him there and will get him some minutes. Backlund has never thrilled me on the powerplay.

Kylington certainly has some offensive capability. He should get PP2 time IMO.

Huberdeau-Kadri-Mangiapane
Andersson-Lindholm
Mangiapane scored 36 and didn’t get onto the #1 unit until the tail end of the season.
I might flip Kadri and Lindholm depending on who has a better one-timer/who distributes better from up top.
Andersson has the bomb from the point.
Huberdeau plays the orchestra.

Weird mostly for the setup and gaining the zone.. We are so used to it for so long now.

Lindholm has the best faceoff % on the Flames, so I think he should be the PP1 C.
Huberdeau is the most elite passer, so I put him on LD.
The most difficult decision for me is having either Toffoli or Mang on PP1. Mang was a better goal scorer last year, but Toffoli is a bigger body.
Kadri was the LW on Colorado's #1 PP, so I'm putting him back there.
Weegar hasn't played much PP in his career to the best of my knowledge.
PP1
Kadri - Lindholm - Toffoli
Huberdeau - Andersson
PP2
Dube - Backlund - Mangiapane
Hanifin - Kylington
I think Dube, Coleman, Lucic and Pelletier fight for the PP2 LW spot. My hope is that Pelletier rises to the occasion.

Good observation. Gaudreau is a wizard at zone entry; Huberdeau is supposed to be a slacker at entries, but elite once play is established. Will be interesting to see how that shakes out

I’ve just seen that Lindholm is a RHS.
Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Andersson-Kadri
Mangiapane goes and gets the puck.
Huberdeau runs things from the half wall.
Lindholm works the middle.
Andersson and Kadri give you two one-timers from the blue line.
Profit.

Weegar is the key there. He's pretty good at finding the open players on zone entries, or can just carry the puck in himself.
IIRC, Lindholm is also traditionally a good zone entry player, but I may be mistaken.

I think they over-relied on Gaudreau bringing the puck into the zone.
Come up the ice as a 5-man unit, attacking with speed. Whichever side you outnumber them on, dump it in and go get it.
If you can’t get the puck in time, at least introduce the defenseman to the glass.
