Hanifin - Andersson - Don't try to fix what isn't broken - solid chemistry together.

Weegar - Tanev - gives the Flames another #1 pair - that's huge
Kylington - Zadorov - can continue being sheltered.

This is my thought as well. Weegar-Tanev can easily be the best pairing if they gel. It also puts Weegar in his natural spot (RHS playing his off-side)

Kylington-Zadorov should also be a real test for either player of whether or not they can step up and be the lead dman on a pairing.

Sutter got Gudbranson paid the big $$$$

Whatever he goes with I'm not going to complain. Dang old Dman whisperer.

I don't think Kylington-Zadorov is a good idea, as both are prone to big gaffs, and both want to jump up into the play and/or pinch quite a bit.

I agree with those that think we don't need to fix what isn't broken:

Hanifin - Andersson -- great pairing
Zadorov - Weegar -- should be good puck movers
Kylington - Tanev -- keep doing what you did last year

And I would distribute the 5on5 ice-time fairly evenly, so that they can do whatever they like with special teams

I think this is the most balanced way to set up the pairings. Each pair has a responsible Dman, with a higher risk/reward player. I think putting Weegar with Zadorov will allow Zadorov to play to his strengths and not be exposed defensively much like Tanev with Kylington.

Not sure I agree with going for 3 equal pairings. Stack the top 4 and keep the bottom pairings minutes reasonable. Weegar isn't going to stay playing on the 3rd pairing.

Weegar - Tanev
Hanifin - Andersson

Really any combination is great

It's gonna be obv interesting for sure.

Zadorov-Kylington worry me somewhat as well. I list Kylington on right side here as I thought he played some there in the past if I recall correctly and actually preferred the right side in his earlier yrs. Not that I trust my mind these days...

Weeger - Tanev has the looks of being a top 5 pairing in the league.

There isn’t a 1st or 3rd pairing with Sutter. If you give PP and PK minutes to Weegar he could easily become the #1 Dman minutes-wise.

Tanev-Kylington and Hanifin-Andersson were good last season. So Zadorov-Weeger would be what is left. Certain that will change in camp, but for now that would be my guess for penciling pairings in.

I think they will look to have at least one puck mover on each pair
Weegar-Tanev would be very good analytically

If Kylington or Zadorov struggle on the right side, I can see your pairings being used
DO NOT what ever you do throw Weegar out there with Tanev until he signs a long term contract! His stats would make him unsignable…..😝

Unless there is a trade or injuries neither Kylington or Zadorov should be playing in your top 4.

Weegar-Tanev
This is your shut down pair. They get the hardest minutes and the most defensive zone starts.

Hanifin-Andersson
Excellent 2nd pairing that will contribute to special teams.

Zadorov-Kylington
They will get mostly offensive zone starts, and will be sheltered in regards to march ups.

by no means is Weegar a third pairing guy, obviously. But the other two pairings were really solid for the most part last season, so I'd just keep them. Let Weegar play PP1 and PK1 and rack up the minutes this way.

PP1: Weegar
PP2: Kylington, Andersson

PK1: Weegar, Tanev
PK2: Zadorov, Hanifin/Andersson
I don’t think Kylington will be above Weegar on the depth chart.

This is completely untrue, where are you getting this? Weegar played very little PP and was on the second unit if he did. Huberdeau was obviously on the first unit and he always played on his strong side along the boards. The PP setup in Florida never had these two guys on the point, they weren't even on the same PP.

I'm not worried about Tanev. He could play with all of our LHD and elevate them.

Pairing Zadorov with Weegar will make it so Sutter doesn't have to shelter that 3rd pairing so much.

Hanafin/Andersson have a ton of chemistry developed and I doubt Sutter breaks them up. These guys eat up big minutes and can be counted on in all 3 zones.

Kylington/Weegar has potential if they can click. I wouldn't be surprised to see this tried at some point in the season. Could be our most offensive pair.

Zadorov/Tanev could be interesting. Tanev could make up for Zadorov's mistakes. Might not be the highest scoring pairing though.

Mackey/Tanev or Mackey/Weegar could both work. Mackey seems to be a guy who can play up and down the lineup. Doesn't strike me as the most offensive minded.

Kylington/Tanev have the chemistry from last year. I'm sure we will see this at some point.

Unless Valimaki improves his mobility and skating I don't see him cracking this lineup. The dynamic puck carrying flashes we saw in his previous seasons seem to be a thing of the past. The knee injury by all accounts was very serious. I'm not sure he reaches his pre injury potential. If he does get a shot he will likely be paired with Tanev or Weegar.

Weegar steps in as the best defenseman on the team, I doubt he ends up on the 3rd pairing.

Woah!

That’s a gargantuan and very speculative leap.
