Meh. Wasn’t impressed with him here. Maybe because he was playing so much Center.

That is a cheap deal I wish the Flames would have made. Move him back to the wing where he was good at. Sucked at centre for us.

I liked his speed and energy but he was just snakebit as a Flame. He's 30 but the contract seems pretty fair. I wonder if the Flames were involved in talks with him or maybe they are holding out for Kadri or another UFA.

I’ll take a chance in the final 8 for those picks every year.

I’d bet that the flames could have got that deal if they wanted to, especially with the Lindholm and Markstrom connection.
Looks like the Flames prefer to fill his role with entry level contracts for next season, and really, I can’t disagree with that considering the cap needed for Tkachuk, Mang, Kylington etc

Damn - surprised we couldn't convince him to stay here with his best pals for that deal.
Although I don't think Sutter was really a huge fan and that could be why in the end.

Great contract for him. Would have loved him back at that for a middle six role.

That’s what I want too. If you want to fix this without rebuilding we need growth from within first then explore UFAs or trades once the team proves itself with some young players

The Flames could have easily afforded that contract. Suspect Tre didn't make an offer.

Probably offered a contract but like most people with common sense - they don't want to go 4 years on guy who's 30 and not a star to begin with.

4 years for Jarnkrok seems very excessive. Glad the Flames didn't make that offer. This contract is big enough that you can't bury it to make a spot for a prospect. The Flames have 4-5 forward prospects, who may or may not work out, but need to be given some development time in the NHL to have any chance of working out.
Also, Jarnkrok's greatest asset was his speed, but he's turning 31 at the beginning of the season. Not sure how speedy he'll still be at 35. I already found him a bit inconsistent as is.

Good player, they got him for a potential run, he played his role. Can be replaced internally. What's next?

$2.1 m AAV is bottom of the roster money. How did we give up so much for this guy?
Either the rest of the league undervalues this guy or that was a big overpay.
If he thought he was worth more and just not having luck in FA, he should have signed for 1 year. This is the kind of contract a player signs who is worried about falling out of the league.

Did he do anything in his time with the Flames to warrant that kind of offer from the Treliving?

$2.1 x 4 is not bottom of the barrel. There are many players earning less. The term is long. He'll be 31 to start this season and 35 in the last year of his contract.
Except for his time with the Flames, he was a consistent .5 ppg player. Hence the price. It was also a wild trade deadline heading into a weak draft, with 1sts and 2nds being thrown around like candy.
