I don't think those tweets suggest the Flames are close, just that they are going for it.
Could just be a ploy by his agent as someone else mentioned. The assumption is that the Flames are desperate now.

Makes sense listening to Zadorov interview sounds like he had a talk with Brad and that discussion centered around rebuild or compete after JG. Sense was Brad told him no rebuild and he signed.

Brad also said he wasn't going to make any splashy moves and instead compete from within in a few interviews around the draft regarding the situation if Gaudreau didn't return.

I don't think the 9.5 thing is anywhere near reality. If it happens, I'd think 7x7 would be more realistic ... but I also wonder about that term.
