Isn’t Tanev ahead of schedule and likely for training camp? Though I heard/read that somewhere.

I want Phillips, I want another Mighty Mouse to shine. And he is local kid, so he won't be stressing about playing close to home when he succeed in Calgary.

That’s what Brad said at the draft when asked about it.

This is so cool having our farm team here now.
Getting to see the younger fellas progress, grow, learn , ascend to the NHL from AHL.
I think it will inspire several of these guys to work just a little harder knowing what can happen if they are getting consistently better as the season progresses.
Mackey, Ruszicka for sure up with the Flames.
I'd love to see Pelletier, Zary by seasons end make a push for time up with the Flames.
Mitch Love did such an awesome job last year 👏
Will be interested to see how Wolfs play could push Vladar to be better

Aside from the obvious Pelletier, Mackey, Ruzicka, and Valimaki, I could see Pospisil maybe grabbing a spot. If Jordan Nolan can earn a spot on the Stanley Cup winning Kings under Sutter, I’m sure MP can win a spot here. He’s just gotta play physical and skate hard in camp. Might have to wait for an injury though.

This should be the conversation every single year.
We need young players on ELCs to keep us at the salary cap.

I predict most of the kids who played in Stockton will play in Calgary this year.

I’d be very surprised if Pelletier doesn’t get a spot on the third line.

If rumours are to be believed, there were teams asking for Pelletier at the last Trade Deadline and told he was close to untouchable. I think he'd fit into some NHL teams lineups now (or very soon),

I think there are a few possibilities. In order of most likely to least in my little head:
1) Ruzicka - Most exposure to Sutter already, and Sutter seemed to like him for the most part. Didn't completely trust him, but made several mentions about Ruzicka.
2) Mackey - Also more familiar to Sutter, and brings that 'tough to play against' mentality.
3) Dueher - He is fast and very gritty. Sutter likes having these guys on the 4th line. Doesn't appear that Ritchie is returning, so my guess is that he is in the mix with Rooney (Rooney should beat him, but Dueher will get consideration I think).
4) Valimaki - as it stands, Stone is not re-signed, and Gudbranson is gone. Valimaki has a really nice overall tool-set. Things didn't go well for him and he ended up rattled, but now hopefully with a long stint in Stockton, he can get his legs under him again in camp/preseason. As Zadorov spoke about in his interview posted on the fan960, Zadorov never had a coach like Sutter making him a better player. Hopefully Valimaki's game is at a threshold that allows him to stick around, and really develop under Sutter.
5) No Gaudreau, and (so far) no big offensive forward signings - the biggest threat on the farm to score is Pelletier. Mature game that I think Sutter will probably appreciate. I guessed that this year he would be in Ruzicka's spot last year - mostly around the team, but maybe up and down.
6) Zary - Slow start last year with the injury, but as long as he worked out hard and put on a bit of strength, watch him make an impression.
7) Pospisil - if this guy can stay healthy, he has a shot. Gritty and has hands. Just needs to stay healthy or he will end up like Matt Pelech, John Armstrong, Mitch Wahl or John Negrin - guys that were showing well, but had injuries derail their development. If he makes it, I think a reasonable comparison would be a Lance Bouma or maybe if things go well, and Eric Nystrom type.
I am not in the Phillips camp. I mean, I do hope he makes it, but I don't think he produces enough at the AHL level, and if he isn't producing.... Pelletier as a rookie was only a few points behind Phillips who has 4 years of pro experience (give or take - covid interrupted). When you look at Mangiapane, Dube, Pelletier, even Ruzicka in a smaller sample size - they all produced better than Phillips, and all of them bring additional elements. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't think we see him outside of the preseason. I do hope he impresses. Off the chart work-ethic, and he absolutely goes to the dirty areas without flinching. Dude deserves a shot, but I am not sure he will get one.
Solovyov? Maybe? Poolman gets a look? Probably not either of them.
The way Wolf is going, hard to keep him away. Vladar is a good goalie, and Markstrom is one of the best. It would take an injury I say to push Wolf onto the team (knock on wood there are no injuries!!). One can easily make the argument that no other prospect in Stockton is more 'deserving' of a shot than Wolf, but another year of development is to be expected.

We're all going to have a much better idea where the prospects sit once the AHL starts up play.

FWIW, re: Phillips doesn't score enough — just because Pelletier is excellent, comparatively speaking, doesn't mean Phillips isn't also in a class of his own offensively in the A.
He was 23 for almost the entire 2021–22 regular season (turned 24 when the playoffs started). The eight players in the entire league who finished ahead of him in the scoring race were 27, 29, 28, 28, 26, 28, 26, and 26 at the start of the season.
He and JJ Peterka were the only two guys younger than 26 at the start of the year to finish top-10 in scoring. Phillips might not score enough in the NHL if given a shot, but it's hard to argue that he hasn't earned one at this point.

Is Phillips used more to carry the puck in and create the opportunities? He also plays point on the PP yeah?

We'll have to see what Phillips' new contract is like for a better idea as to how he might be deployed.

The issue was we already had an undersized winger in Gaudreau.
It should be easier for him to crack the lineup now, especially given how hard he is on the puck.
He is a notoriously hard forechecker, always willing to go to the dirty areas. If Sutter was impressed with Gaudreau's stick checking on the backcheck, he will undoubtedly have confidence in Phillips's abilities. Phillips, obviously, doesn't have the same offensive abilities as Gaudreau, but his tenaciousness and commitment to the system should earn him a look.
It's a shame he is as small as he is, otherwise, I am certain he would have cracked the NHL already. Reminds me of Wolf in terms of the chip he carries on his shoulder.
No better time to give him a chance than now. But it really comes down to Sutter and tbh he might just be too small.
