He was actually bought out.

Anahiem giving up on Milano and Steel just does not make any sense to me unless..... a number of these Unqualified players were on the '18 World Junior team including Steel, Howden, Clague and Mete (although he was not present during the assault). Could this be an indication of those who were involved?

Feel like this is a reach for no reason...

Most likely scenario is they just don't want to pay these guys what an arbitrator would award, they feel there's enough other just as good options in their system or free agents that will be cheaper to sign.

Milano is a poor overall player, that in his best offensive season still only had 34 points in 66 games, boosted by playing with Zegras. But when he's not scoring he ain't helping.

That's not what the underlying stats say:

He's worth a flyer IMO - the underlying stats show a playmaker ready to pop and this team could really use another puck distributor.

Kubalik seems like the big target here. Strome could definitely be useful for a team like Columbus.

Would have liked the Flames to extend an tryout invite to Brendan Guhle. I know the Flames have Välimäki and Mackey waiting for their opportunity and the emergence of Kylington but Guhle can skate better than the first 2 and seems to have slipped through the cracks.

The Athletic also has him as one of the top players that didn't get qualifying offers. I think he got benched by Eakins who seems like he wasn't a fan of the player. If you could get a guy like this signed to a modest deal it can't hurt given the offensive production.

This one’s pretty surprising. Milano’s a creative, gifted playmaker who finally established himself with a solid campaign, notching 14 goals and 34 points in 66 games next to Trevor Zegras. The 26-year-old’s combination of speed and skill allows him to consistently create controlled zone entries and set up his linemates for dangerous scoring chances.

Milano’s work away from the puck isn’t perfect but a look underneath the hood reveals that his two-way profile wasn’t a problem at all. The Ducks actually controlled a strong 52 percent share of shot attempts and scoring chances during his five-on-five minutes last season.

The Athletic's take;

Speed and skill are increasingly important in the modern game. In Milano, teams can bid on an inexpensive player who can provide both.

Watching him and Brooksy in the 131/130 point season was lights out. Brooks and Wagner on the PK you knew there was always a chance at a shorty. Very exciting time to be a Pat's fan at that time
