Shows how development takes time and is not linear. This was a player who was in the same discussion as Monahan/Lindholm in the top 5 of the 2013 draft. He bounced around but finally hit his stride at 27. Contract seems big to me but he is a big body 200ft player who is maybe just hitting his prime.

This seems like an overpayment to me. Nichushkin is one of those players you love when he's overplaying a small contract. If his scoring goes back to where it was last year, all of a sudden you've got an anchor signed until 2030 and age 35.

Big difference in usage between those seasons though. He was always effective in a limited role and then they finally gave him a top 6 spot and he continued to flourish. Solid deal for the avs

He’s now stapled to McKinnon. Getting him signed long term before his scoring goes way up.

I think that's a lot of money for him. Like the player, but he's cashing in for his good playoff run.

Only a few years ago, nobody wanted him.

Risky for a guy with one good year. Good be a real huge bargain or a boat anchor in a couple of years.

His usage changed big time this year, it’s really the first time he got to play with skilled players in the top 6 and he showed what he could do.

He was a beast in the playoffs.

Nichushkin also has scary good possession numbers.

This is the first year he was used in an offensive role, he’s been a defensive and possession beast for the Avs since he signed there. It’s a gamble, but if he can continue his offensive contribution he is on a much nicer contract than a similar player in Stone. There’s an if there, but he should be in a position to get more and more chances.

Wow didn't think the Avs would want to tie up that much salary. Good player but I could see this handcuffing them in the future.

He had a heck of a year but he isn't that far removed from being a borderline NHLer

Window is open for them. I bet they're thinking about dynasty, and worry about the rest later.

Does this deal mean they let Burakovksy walk? Or have they announced if that's happening already?

That's pretty much been a given. Nichushkin kind of grabbed his spot.
