Great deal. Likely puts Gaudreau in the 10.25- 10.5 aav range if he returns.

Nazem Kadri is probably celebrating this.

Whoever pays Kadri north of 8 long term is crazy.
Guy has 1 season over 60 pts on a stacked Avs team.

Stay far far away.

Why? Forsberg is by far the better player.

Supply and demand dictates market value. One more player off the market means more competition for his services.

Forsberg was never going to be an option here. His soon to be wife is a Country Singer making her way in Nashville.

Quick, someone offer Johnny's wife a high profile position in the Oil & Gas industry.

Still feels like yesterday Brian burke calling out Kadri. Burke drafted him in 2009. To also make you feel old burke tried trading kadri for louongo in 2013 which that failed trade is why he believes he was fire from the leafs

But less demand, as one less team looking to sign a top guy.

Damn! The Preds got a great deal for getting Forsberg to sign this contract. I'm hope Gaudreau can come in at around the same price and term. Both player are talented but I'd take Forsberg over Gaudreau if you had to come down to one player you must have because Forsberg can play center, a right hand shot, he'll go to the dirty area as a power forward (similar to Tkachuk), and he's not slow like Tkachuk. The two players have similar stats throughout their careers thus far but Forsberg seems to be far more versatile (as others have said) but Gaudreau's on-ice hockey IQ is that of Gretzky's. Forsberg's hockey IQ seems pretty good too. It was wishful thinking to have both Forsberg and Gaudreau on a Flames team - it was a good dream though. Now, let's see what Johnny does.

In no universe is Forsberg as good as Gaudreau. Not close.

Default Preds re-sign Forsberg (8yrs, ~$8.5 mil AAV)

Yeah that’s a strange take. Different tiers of player entirely.

No matter where Gaudreau signs his AAV will be quite higher than 8.5

Biggest knock against Gaudreau is he won't go into the hard areas - earlier in his career, maybe - the last 5 years, no way. Sure, on a regular season Gaudreau is a playmaker 75% of the time. Come playoffs with tight checking, that playmaking ability goes down to like 20-30%. I'm not saying Foresberg is exactly the same as Gaudreau, but Foresberg can bring several tangible assets that Gaudreau don't have in addition to skills. If you're talking $10M+ for Gaudreau and comparing him to the likes of McDavid, Drai, or Crosby at their prime, you'd be nuts to do so.
