On the positive side, if the Flames re-sign Johnny and Tkachuk, and can promote some players from the farm to make up for some UFA losses, there is no reason to believe they could not repeat the same excellent regular season they just had.

That gets substantially the same team back to the playoffs one year wiser, and likely facing different opponents. There's no doubt the Flames didn't play to the peak of their abilities in the playoffs this year, so good reason to believe that the same roster could outperform this year's playoff performance. That might be good enough to get them to the conference finals, or even the finals, and who wouldn't like to see that?

So all is not lost going into next season, but just about everything for next year depends on whether Johnny is back. If he's not, it will likely be a ho hum season while we wait for some big contracts to come off the books and some prospects to develop.

Great season, epic round 1, top line in the league in regular season. So much to love about the year.
Will be interesting to see where they go now.

While not the ending I was hoping for , I found the season thoroughly enjoying. Didn’t believe this core had what it took to even make playoffs let alone get 2nd round. They showed purpose and Sutter gave them an identity after all these years.

Been a long time since I was this excited to watch a hockey game. Thanks for the good run gentlemen. Heal up, chin up, and buck up for next year.

As much as the ending to the season sucked (and is still does right now just a day after being eliminated), it was still a fun season overall. Lots of great hockey to watch this year, and it definitely beats not having hockey during Covid. It was also great to finally go to some live games after not being able to for 2 years, so that was fun as well.

I realized after making the thread that I forgot to talk about covid because I was going to mention how nice it was as a distraction to it and watching the team emerge from the restrictions the way that they did.

Not only was the very enjoyable season it was a very interesting season in that regard.

Thank you the team for a very good season that surpassed most peoples’ expectations. There were a lot of positives to take away and good things to remember about this season. It may sting today, but 31 out of 32 teams in the league end up with an unhappy ending.

For those who want to bash individuals with criticism and blame, I recommend stepping back and letting your emotions cool down first. Firstly, we don’t know everything that goes on behind the scenes, especially the possibility of many players quietly playing through injuries.

Secondly, it’s easy to watch the game and say what the players and coaches need to do, but it’s another thing completely to be able to do it in such a high-pressure, fast-paced, and difficult league. They’re all humans who did their best and this team did not fall short from a lack of heart this season.

Cheers to the Flames for a positive step this year and here’s to hoping for more positive steps next season! When the new season starts again, I’ll be ready to cheer them on again with a fully open heart and new hope. Go Flames Go!!

Absolutely the most fun I've had cheering for this team since the '04 cup run. Tremendous season, awesome way to end the round 1 series vs Dallas! That was such a special moment. Johnny, please don't go!
