ALT Hotel in East Village is probably the best hotel for attending the Flames games. It is owned by Germain Group, is very modern, inexpensive and close to the Dome/LRT and everything else Downtown.

I think the issue was safety, but as I said, I think the walk to the closer DT hotels is pretty good. And maybe even quicker depending on the C Train lineup. Your wallet would be safer, that's for sure.

ALT Hotel in East Village would be my recommendation, or an AirBnB at the higher end condos all around the dome would be even more convenient.
After game 7, I saw a ton of people walking from the Dome to Hotel Arts. Huge crowd on the way to red mile and looked safe.
The C-Train is probably the worst option due to congestion and how unsafe it is these days.

No one suggests the Sandman across from Crack Mac's on 7th Ave and 8 St SW?
One block from C-train and the Crack Mac's isn't that sketchy anymore...

presumably you could go to motel village, you have to go through downtown instead of south. But it's all in the name and the station right across the street.

Some great airbnbs in the beltline area. Stayed at one during my last trip to Calgary that was very upscale and inexpensive.

What's the Beltline area sorry? We stayed at the Fairfield Marriott last time and there was a Beltline diner. We walked by some sketchy looking places but maybe we just went in the wrong direction?

Belt line is the area immediately south of downtown. Goes from the cp rail tracks to 17th I think?
I’d say Fairfield or hotel arts are fine choices. There are a few mildly sketchy areas around the dome but you should be fine. 17th ave will be bustling and you’re only a few blocks from there.

University heights IMO is perfect. Red line gets you straight to the dome. Highly recommend. And If I recall, plenty of hotels within steps of the train. Especially south of 53rd awe nw near McMahon? Somewhere around there.

Staying near Banff trail is also a 20 minute train ride from the dome. It’ll probably be cheaper than downtown though.

There’s also a Best Western by Marlborough Station. Not sure what that area would be like post-game though, and it’s a different line so you’d have to switch trains downtown.

Even if safety is the concern, I'd way rather walk 5-6 blocks than take the train

Not trying to stir the pot but was is considered as a sketchy area in Calgary to walk through at night? I haven't lived there for 17 years but it was a pretty tame city to grow up in so curious if things have changed. Is there more petty crime or muggings these days?

No, it’s not at all.
Plus the street will be packed with people after the game and tons of cops out and about. Anything walkable west of the dome will be full of people and safe after the game.

The Westin is a 5 minute walk to the 3rd street station and the Sheraton Eau Claire is right by the Westin, maybe 2-3 minutes further up. Both are nice hotels. Westin is a bit nicer, though the rooms are bigger at the Sheraton.
I also like the Fairfield on 12th. From there, you're just walking to the Dome. It's about a 15 minute walk. Good restaurants around there, like Model Milk and Calcutta Cricket Club.

Like Cecil said.
The Beltline Diner is owned by Francis IIRC.

I would not recommend this.
