I'm not sure if this was when Mangiapane was stuck in the back of the net and Benn was hitting him in the face or another incident. Surprised the slewfoot on Tanev wasn't looked at either.

I recall once, I think in the second period close to center ice he hit a Flame up high in the head, and no call. Just the fact that the NHL did see whatever he did and eric asshat didn't, shows how bad a reff he is especially on Flames games.

To be honest, fair enough.

No, the Flames need to send the message, but it should be Lucic, Lewis or Ritchie doing it, not the guy playing on the #1 line who ends up sitting in the penalty box during two Flames PPs.

I think a play like that should be an automatic suspension. Like seriously sticking your stick blade into a guys face thru the net? Seems like text book intent to injure.

There was no hockey play being made there at all.

Pretty sure thats why Darryl moved Ritchie onto the Backlund line....he is there to send a message to Benn.

Doubt the switch lasts long once that has been accomplished.

The same night Kuemper almost lost an eye. Benn did it on purpose…

Im sure there's a number of reasons for the lineup switcheroo, but my guess was to get Mangiapane going a bit (crazy to say, I know)

For a guy his size Mangiapane is really good around the net, he gets a lot of his goals off rebounds and garbage traffic. The 4th line has been one of the only lines to sustain some crashing the net type of traffic, bur they have zero finish. I think its more of a move to get their 35 goal second liner going.

Who knows what Ritchie will do on the second line.

With the 40 hours of tv coverage every day it seems and all the talking heads trying to say they cover every part of the game, why does it take 2 days to actually have the league or Sportsnet trot out the footage? It’s not 1987 anymore.
And that’s worth more than a fine.

Honestly the Benn spear through the netting is one of the most intentional and unnecessary dirty things I've seen. ####ing embarrassing for the NHL to dish out a $5000 fine.

Remember when Matthew Tkachuk got suspended one game and forfeited US$11,280.49 in salary for this poke?

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...earing/?sn-amp

Quote:
Martin said he didn’t know Tkachuk speared him until he was shown a video of the play by team staff.

"I didn’t feel it at the time but I guess if he’s going to do stuff like that he should make it count," said Martin.
Tell me how does Benn only get away with a $5k fine for intentionally poking a guy in the face which he clearly would have felt?

Oh and chock up another slew foot to Benn after Game 4. Dangerous player.

Benn could have two or three fines and a suspension at this point, if this series was given the same scrutiny of, say, Toronto-Tampa.

Guy's a ####ing snake in the grass.

Benn was one of the main reasons why I would have rather seen the Flames face Nashville. Some people were worried about Nashville having too many tough players, but when it comes to straight up dirty play, they don't have anyone like Benn. Tough players... not worried. The Flames can take care of themselves. Benn is the type to purposely injure other players and it's hard to protect against that.

Benn is trying to hurt people. Lucic needs to step up.
Benn politely declined last night

Whatever self respect he had was gone. I think his team sensed that.

As I expected. Fortunately, Lucic wasn't dumb enough to try to force a fight with an opponent who wouldn't go.

Yes, but if you are going to trash talk then you need to back it up

Today Benn is much closer to Lucic than Tkachuk

Lucic is smart enough to know that simply making Benn look like a bitch in front of both benches does the trick.

Yup. And you could see it on Benn's face. He didn't reply to Lucic, but his face showed clear as day that he - and both benches - knew that Looch completely trumped his little game with Tkachuk.

Until that moment, Dallas had had the upper hand with the gamesmanship. But that turned it around, and it is now Looch's world and the Stars are just living in it.

Benn politely declines. I love it.

The Flames, specifically Lucic, battle on the ice, not in front of a microphone.

This is exactly why you have a guy like Lucic and exactly why Sutter had him out for the first shift.

Absolute beauty!
