Meaningless game, so the result doesn't really matter. But it would be very cool to see them hit 50 wins.

Gotta be Marky - he's well rested and you don't want to lay an egg against a team you might face in the first round in a week's time. Mentally it'd be a huge loss.

Plus I can't see giving Mark MORE time off than the week he's had would be a good thing.

I

I disagree about meaningless. If we end up playing Nashville in the first rnd you want to head into that series with a win against them. Also, it gives Dallas a chance to catch the Preds, I would much rather face Dallas.

Sure, you and I would rather the team face Dallas, but the team cannot think like this. I think others are right that they need to worry much less about the outcome of tonight's game than they do about their own fundamentals. It honestly won't matter at all heading into a series who actually won the last game.

Tonight the Nashville Predators play for the right to face us in the first round.
Fail and they are unworthy so can "waste 8 days" with the Aves.

Going to be watching how Backlund's game looks in these next two against decent teams. In my view, he is the lone question mark we have going into the playoffs. One of the weakest 2C's in the playoffs.

Uhhhh....not sure if serious? You do realize one of his roles is shutting down opponents top players? But hey, sure let's just call him the weakest 2C...mkay

You should take your Backlund concerns and hang out with WW at Flamesnation. Of course they call him out there all the time too. I like Backlunds play and his presence gives that top line even more freedom.

Wowzers! I see no one else has concerns with a 2C that has 12 goals on the year. My mistake. Carry on.

His production is significantly lower than almost every 2C in the playoffs and in several cases the 3C on other teams.

I get that he is really good defensively and usually matches up well against other team's top guys. My only concern this year is whether we are going to get the secondary scoring we need when the ice shrinks a bit for the top line. I think we will, but a deep run will require Backlund to be a big contributor IMO.

But not into the goalie's crest.

Backlund's role is that of a 3C. Shutdown the opposition's top guys. He just happens to play on the 2nd line because we don't have a legit 2C who can score. That's definitely a concern going into these playoffs.

Backlund has looked really good for a couple weeks, now, and considering that he was one of the Flames's best players in the Bubble, I am not especially concerned. I think he knows what he is doing.

Ideally Backlund pops for the playoffs, but they have better depth than in any recent season, so offence from Backlund isn't as big an issue.

If he plays one of the opposing top centers into the ground defensively others can chip in offensively.

A team with Mangiapane, Coleman, Toffoli and Dube don't need Backlund to be a 20 goal 45 point players to the same degree previous teams have.
