One of the many reasons I love Sutter is the fact he simply won’t let this team act as though they are a proven elite team until they do it in the playoffs. Any time someone tries to tell him the Flames are like the Kings teams from 12-14 or looking like a contender he reminds everyone they haven’t done anything in the playoffs and should be considered an underdog along the way.

He has also made some comments on how the organization was run by previous coaches and so many bad habits were formed but he has worked hard to get rid of those mindsets.

This team has played a consistent playoff style that if amplified makes a lot of sense why they are a popular pick. Every element is there. High end skill throughout the lineup, size and toughness in the bottom half of the roster, experience from key players on the team.

The 3 game skid to end last month and start this month has been responded to by going 9-1-1. So much to love about this current group

I did this once before in the 2017 playoffs. I knew Calgary would get smoked by Anaheim in the first round, so I bet on the Ducks for the series and put extra money on them for the 2 games in Anaheim, since the Flames had yet to break the Ponda Center curse. Felt dirty to just take the money from the Flames getting their asses kicked, so I bet it forward on the Penguins to win the cup after that. Ended up turning a $100 initial bet into over $1000 winnings, that took the sting off quite a bit

I didn't repeat the bet in 2019 because for once I actually had a lot of confidence in the Flames going into the playoffs. I won't make the same mistake this year

It’s not casual bro, car flags pre-playoff clinch is the equivalent of wearing your jersey to a blue jays game in August.

This year seems different.
It seems that in a lot of the Flames' losses this year have been games where they have carried the play but either got out-goaltended or some other strange occurrence. The only true blip was the post-covid road trip. Take that road trip out of our record and it is not hard to see why they are where they are and why the advance stats back up the eye test.

I'm saving all my energy for round 2 and won't bite until they win at least one round! It's been an amazing season but it means nothing until they get a playoff round win.

Nope. Flames have done nothing in the playoffs. Regular season stats and rankings mean nothing once the playoffs start.

Let’s just enjoy this week and then the mission begins. Unfinished business.

This praise is nice and all, I mean the team really did earn it the way they played this season outside of the month of COVID, but I'd almost rather have the media take a turd on them and label them under dogs so they get that us against the world mentality.

But who knows, maybe it doesn't make a bit of difference in that room. Hopefully they're just all business no matter what the press is saying.

Like some said for me it’s gotta win at least one round. I refuse another choke job.

Same here.. I'll watch round one of course. But I won't be fully emotionally invested till they win a round. Although I know I'll be pissed off if they choke, especially if the coilers make it further.

Moneypuck has said the same thing for quite a few weeks now as well.

I try to not let the hype get me, as these numbers seem to mean less come playoff grind time. But god dammit I sure have to admit I'm excited

I'm just going to enjoy it this year. This team hasn't been right out of many games this year so at least we can expect them to show up.

Bonus of the Flames being so hyped is that I should be getting pretty good odds on the bet

This is blasphemous

This is the year to go all in and cheer your balls off

I think as hockey fans there’s just too much randomness in the playoffs for any serious fan to get excited early. What was it like three years ago a gazillion point unstoppable Tampa team got swept by crappy Columbus in round 1?

We’ll see how it goes, certainly a lot of reasons for optimism though. This is the best team they’ve put on the ice since ‘89.
