Dom from Athletic had an article today on size and the playoffs focused primarily on Gaudreau and Marner.

Looking back at Gaudreau and Marner’s lack of playoff success, it’s interesting to note that not only did both players qualify as the least heavy players that season — but so too did their teams, generally speaking. In Gaudreau’s four playoff seasons, Calgary’s Heavy Score was 83, 94, 93 and 88. Toronto’s was 99, 90, 94, 99 and 101 (mostly stemming from weight rather than physicality). This year Calgary is at 106 while Toronto is at 88.

He said the bigger team wins 63% of the time.

Calgary may be better off with Dallas.

Oh and Edmonton is screwed!

It took me a while to warm up to advanced stats but I really enjoy Dom's articles as he makes them easier to follow than some of the other websites. Blues are kind of a surprise being in the Heavy Passive box as I would that thought they would have been one of the more Heavy Physical teams.

Tkachuk went off alone on a reputation call after getting crosschecked into the cross bar.

In the third when the Flames had a late powerplay they called interference on Mangiapane (think this was the one Haynes was referring too) that literally had a Predator skate into him in the neutral zone.

Totally agree with the team being flat as a pancake but able to withstand the pressure against, they are much better when they are at their worst than they have been in years

A good team that can get a point with their B or C game

I also agree, Vladar was solid. Only beaten by a rocket one timer from Forsberg for his 39th, and an own goal after a brilliant save. Definitely earned the point they did get
