Article also has in interesting tidbit about the infamous photo of Kipper and Dion lighting up.
My dads side of the family is/was all French Canadian and I have so many memories of going up to Quebec and meeting all those old-timers and they all smoked like crazy and drank gin like it was water--is that just a sign 'o' the times/generation thing? Or is this a Quebec culture thing? This was in the early 90s.

^^ probably a little of both

certainly generational norms have changed, but I say this with all fondness for someone who has lived large chunks off my life in Montreal, a city I love like no other, even era adjusted I always found smoking to be more prevalent there- far more likely for the guy next to me have a cigarette hanging out of his mouth with ashes falling in my produce in the grocery store in Montreal than Calgary in the 80s for example

He was also the first NHLer I ever met as a kid - might have been the same tour. Got him to sign his 90 OPC Premier card. wishing him the best.

And yes, he was crushing a lung dart at the time, vividly remember that.

Sincere condolences to the Lafleur family. Having migrated to Quebec in the late 60's, we had no clue what hockey was and we quickly picked it up by watching and hearing Guy Guy Guy chants on Saturdays.
Then my dad brought me to the Forum in oct 1973 against the Flames and eventhough Lafleur scored , my attention was on this Tom Lysiak guy and the rest is history.

Le demon blond you will be missed.
