"You have to have a better winning percentage in the regular season than you do in the playoffs. You can go 16 and 12 to win a Stanley Cup, but that percentage does not make the playoffs."

He won’t keep it that way for long.
I wish he would keep the top line as is and mix and mash the 2nd and 3rd lines until he finds the right fit.

I agree Jarnkrok has not looked great at centre but I think they're using many of the remaining games to see if he can work himself into that role. Otherwise, they've got Carpenter, Dube, Lewis and Ruzicka that fit into the 3/4 line centre role if Jarnkrok doesn't fit there.

I think Sutter is just trying to keep the guys on their toes. They've basically got the division locked up at this point, and he doesn't want them getting complacent over these last 9 games.
The team as a whole were very lazy and uninspired in those first two periods last night, and you don't want those bad habits creeping into their game heading into the playoffs.

I wonder If the Monahan injury has forced their hand with Jarnkrok playing center.
Say what you will about a (healthy) Monahan. You lose ability and experience with him out of the lineup.
|
Monahan's experience? - like his calming presence and penchant for doing nothing whatsoever? Jarnkrok will be just fine. It does take more than a handful of games for players to acclimate.

A lot of people have no idea how difficult and, at the same time, simple Darryl’s approach to leading /building a winning team is…
He’s playing elite level chess while a good portion of his peers are okay at checkers.
Today’s interview is one of the very best at explaining his approach.

That's not all of it though. Darryl has ALWAYS been "team first" kinda coach. But so was Brent. Same coaching philosophy, same upbringing, same temperament, same winning attitude. But he wasn't very successful in his NHL coaching career. Despite being tough and unsentimental, Darryl possesses something that most players recognize and respect - they trust him to make them better players. I don't know how else to phrase it. Magic.

He is very good when he does the stick reverse. Not as good as Monahan has been this year, but pretty darn good. That's not his centering weakness. I think he just seems more comfortable at wing.

Another great presser from Sutter today. Also, this quote sounds like another veiled shot at the Oilers, lol.

Darryl keeps emotion …anger, glee, and stupid remarks out of the picture.
Never raises his voice but commands tremendous respect.
He , unlike many others, can motivate, prolifically, with either positive energy and /or negative energy. He doesn’t care which one it is.
Wisdom and winning experience, while being level headed is a great set of tools to have at your disposal.

I think Jarnkrok looked fine when he first got here, slowed down a bit and then had his "illness".
In other words I think he'll be fine at C when he gets back up to speed but I also would love to see him on Backlund's RW

True but this team isn't getting much production out of the bottom 9. Mang was moved to the top line in the 3rd period and it paid immediate dividends. Keeping the top line together is a great idea, but it might also be worth looking into the possiblity of playing Chucky on the 2nd line for a more balanced top 6.

Loved how Sutter told the reporters to come better prepared with questions for the players. Always hits the nail on the head with how the reporters have these preconceived ideas about what makes a good player but are basically wrong.
