I still can’t decide if Fehr proves Gary Bettman’s ability to calculatively manipulative for NHL ownership or just how pathetically stupid Bud Selig & MLB ownership actually is.

But when I think about it, it’s probably just both.

They are a union. The NHL formally recognized the NHLPA as a union in 1967. Lots of unions are titled “Association”. The Alberta Teachers’ Association, for example.

No. OTOH, they aren't a normal union either. What union advocates opposes mandatory safety equipment for its members? League discipline, contract negotiations etc. The outside influence of agents is unusual as well.
