But of course, the ONE season in his entire career that he has big injury (from I believe Souray), it just happens to be IMO his most dominating season and he never got to hit that sweet 100 point mark

IIRC it was a knee injury he suffered during a fight with Bryan Allen on the Panthers.

That's right. Iggy was the one that broke Souray when he fought him.

Thinking about it further (and confirmed after looking up a couple of articles), it turns out I only half remembered; Iginla was actually injured after Allen hit him along the boards, and Iggy was so pissed he went and fought him and held his own.
I remember folks being nervous that Iginla had originally hurt his hand during the fight, so it was a bit of a relief that it was only his knee.

Darryl Sutter, on Johnny Gaudreau - March 27, 2022
Did anyone predict this would come out of Sutter's mouth when he first joined the team last year? Especially with guys like Lindholm and Backlund on the team?

Being an old guy I'm really going to enjoy him getting to 100 points and a share for the 10th best season in Calgary history ... and then crawling through the list of old names.
The Flames had so much success in their first decade and change that most of those names felt like they'd never be touched.

If he can get 111 we should build him a statue.

Darryl has obviously rubbed off on him but a lot of credit has to go to Gaudreau for embracing the challenge and putting in the effort to become a 200 foot player as that's not always been the case for him. No matter what happens in the playoffs, nobody can deny that he totally delivered for this team in what could be his last season as a Flame.

Pretty wild that it’s nearly been 30 years since the last 100 point season by a Flame.

For how dominant Iginla was, it’s crazy to me that he never cracked 100. Different game then but it still doesn’t eqaute in my mind

I see. I only looked in Calgary history. No reason to believe that Gaudreau won't have the 3rd highest total at the end of this year. Maybe even 2nd.

He would have gotten there in 06-07 if it wasn’t for his knee injury. 94 points in 70 games.

Stupid no-name guy that that pinned Iggy's knee into the boards and then got his ass kicked immediately afterward by the owner of said knee.
People always talk about "warriors" who take a puck in the face, get stitched up and then go right back out there (except for Neal). And rightfully so, but what about the guy who suffers a season-ending knee injury getting up off the ice and beating the tar out of the guy who injured him before skating off to the dressing room?

3 pts left for 100 for Johnny!
Also close to his goal scoring record.
Lindy 4 for 40…
