I mean, Kulak is a fine defenseman.
But this will be a fun experiment that we can watch in realtime on how situation, usage, and team are massively important with respect to how well a defenseman can perform.
Poor Brett is going to see his stock plummet.

Good move by the Oilers, depending on cost.

Depending on the price, Kulak is a good pickup for EDM. All they need now is 2 new top 4 D, 6-8 new forwards, 2 new goalies, a new coach, new GM, new owner, and new city and they'll be golden.

Would be funny if we suddenly scooped him up for future considerations.
Messing with the oilers is always great fun.

McDavid (salary retained). The trade is one for one.

So the Oilers are going for it, but not addressing goaltending.
Please send multiple picks and then miss please.

EDM got a 3rd pairing D that plays well against low quality competition. He makes EDM slightly better, but I don't see Kulak making a difference. That's because despite EDM having two of the most dynamic offensive forwards, they have struggled in low scoring, checking hockey, which is what the playoffs are all about.
I was surprised when some people thought we might be getting Kulak back. Things obviously didn't end well here. In addition, he would be a 7th D at best on this team, so he didn't make too much sense when you can recall Valimaki or Mackey to play LD, if injuries occur.

An escapee. Who played junior in Vancouver (which while it has a bad team is a nice city), Calgary (nuff said) and Montreal (see Vancouver comments). Also his wife seems to be from Calgary.

Kulak is a good NHL player. He can help most teams.
But he can’t do anything to help the Oilers with what they got.
