Out of towner here. Coming into town for tonight's game, pretty pumped to see the Flames live for the first time in forever.

I will be with my three kids, the oldest (10) who is autistic and a huge Flames fan. We would like to soak in as much as we can. Any advice for me? Is it worthwhile to come to the game extra early - anything to do at the Dome while waiting, etc?

Bathroom timing. The lines are horrendous in the intermission so its way better to go during the TV timeouts. Keep an eye out on the zamboni gates for the ice crew during whistles to see when they will be cutting to commercial.

Get there half an hour early and you can walk down to the lower sections to take in the warm-ups, usually the people in those seats won't arrive that early. Might be able to get a puck for the kids!

Pocket Dawgs. Soft serve ice cream.

^^ yes, go early and catch warmups in the lower bowl by the Flames net. I’m not sure what the official start time is but if you get there by 7:25 for an 8:00 pm puck drop you’ll be good. It’s quite the experience to see (and hear) NHL players skating and shooting from up close.

I also got an email confirming the Flames will have their pre-game happy hour ($5 cheeseburgers, pizza, beer) which starts 1.5 hours before the game (when doors open) and ends 30 minutes before the game.

Enjoy the game!

I feel a blow out potential here but the flames will have to weather the first 10 mins. Big two points again to keep picking up on the games in hand! 7-1 in an absolute drubbing!

Islanders haven't been great this year, but they have the tools to do some serious damage. We can't take this game (or any game really) lightly.

Huge game. In the midst of a 7 game homestand that could define their season, they started it off with two monster wins against elite teams. They now have 5 games against mediocre teams and it is imperative that they come out hard tonight and make the statement that they are going to keep the pedal on the floor.

No letting up, go out and dominate the Islanders the way you are capable of doing.

Is this the right place for it? The most sensible time to give Vladar a game was Thursday, but with a two-day break upcoming after tonight Markstrom will be just fine.

Reply to tvp2003 since Firefox quote glitch: IIRC it was during the Comeback Kids of Hartley time when Red Cars were posted for luck and well, they kept winning once they got posted. Suddenly red cars became a central part of the Good Luck JuJu. And I being a sucker for superstition have added it to the roster, as it were

EDIT: Ok just read Cali's post. SO thank him for my posting red cars

After two massive wins against elite teams, tonight has the potential to be one of those let down games where the Flames aren't as emotionally engaged and play down to the level of their opponent. They can't afford to get complacent. They need to put the pedal to the metal and try to keep things rolling.

As long as the Flames show up and remain focused on playing their game, they should win this one easily.

I believe the commercial breaks happen at the first whistle following the 6:00, 10:00 and 14:00 minute marks of the period unless the whistle is for a goal or an icing.

Great tip, but better than watching the gates just check the time:
Quote:
TV timeouts are two minutes long, and occur three times per period, during normal game stoppages after the 6, 10, and 14 minute marks of the period, unless there is a power play, a goal that has just been scored, or the stoppage was as a result of an icing.

They also turn on the red light in the time keepers box. That way you don’t have to memorize the times.

It's such a weird feeling checking the GDT and not having any part of the lineup I'm nervous about. So used to anxiously checking the warmup skate tweets for how they're going to shuffle things around to get some more scoring, solidify the bottom 6, etc. Now I just check, see the same lineup as last game, and I'm totally happy with that.
