Just looking around Google, but pretty much all of the destruction maps seem to place Calgary right on the edge of the primary and secondary ash zones, but outside of the immediate kill zone.
Most maps look like this or pretty similar:
There would still be some destruction and death in the primary hot ash zone, but there would be survivors.

Yeah, Doubt it would be that bad for Calgary, most of the hot ash should blow east, probably a week long mask event which is nothing these days
