Some of you are super high not that there is anything wrong with that. The answer is Peter Jackson.

If you're thinking of the three movies in a row that I think you're thinking of, you're wrong.

I've always thought Michael Mann was very underrated. You decide which 3 it should be from these 4 films:
Last of the Mohicans
Heat
The Insider
Ali

Sidney Lumet has a pretty strong body of work staring with his debut (!) 12 Angry men, the best run I think might be (in a 3 year stretch)
Murder on the Orient Express
Dog Day Afternoon
Network

Holy Grail was co-directed with Gilliam.

Mike Nichols

First of all, thank you for the Mike Nichols nod. Those are amazing films.
However, how could you make a list of PT Anderson films and not include There Will Be Blood???

What’s interesting to me is how rare it is for even the best director to make three great movies in a row. Lots have some real stinkers and some just are good but not great. It’s so hard to get it right 3x in a row.
There’s a lot of good directors but I also see a lot of close but no cigar. Jackie Brown is a weak link for Tarantino, Spielberg has a few weak ones mixed in that ruin his streak, Flags of Our Fathers was boring and one of Clint’s weakest, ROTK was clearly the weakest of the LOTR trilogy, PTA’s best weren’t consecutive etc.
It might be their best run individually but none of them were able to produce three consecutive amazing movies.
Alien
Blade Runner
Legend
For Ridley Scott. Legend is a bit weak but I love that movie.
Jonathan Demme:
Silence of the Lambs
Philadelphia
Beloved
Love all three but Beloved is clearly the weak link.
Imo Kubrick is one of the few who have three all time classics in a row.
Dr Strangelove
2001
A Clockwork Orange

I would go with:
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Moonrise Kingdom
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Only because Bottle Rocket is a little weak.

I suppose. I guess I have a soft spot for Bottle Rocket. There's something very genuine about it compared to his other films.

I like Bottle Rocket too, and I think your list fits the thread, but I’m more a fan of his whimsical flair that peaked during the three films I listed.
