Coleman was top six in 5 on 5 minutes for Tampa in the playoffs with around 18 a night

Not good enough for the Flames though

Darryl was on the morning show with Boomer yesterday. He's definitely a lot more positive about the group than many on CP.

Yeah, Coleman has been playing really well lately.

He has been snake-bitten so far this year, no doubt. But also, Backlund has been pretty bad. And they don't have a proper right winger. When you consider those things, it is no surprise that his production is down.

Then factor in that his line is doing the heavy lifting with respect to matchups, despite the lack of a proper RW.

I just don't get the hate for Coleman. He is definitely a $4.9M player. Will he be in 5 years? Let's deal with that in 5 years. But for now, he is not the problem on his line.

What a 5M player is in 5 years is probably different too...and let's not forget UFA. Free acquisition cost=more money

Okay let's not look past these guys again this year.
Let's be relentless and as much of a pain in the A that they were last year.

As tortz says ....let's play with some balls....and come away with the W.

Let's fill the score sheet with points from the D and solid performances from our forwards .

I hate the sens now. Let's not just play a solid checking game but a game where we limit everything defensively and rob these guys of points , spirit and will.

Go Flames Go ....half full building or not.

I like that Tkachuk plays with Norris.

Pitlick injecting some scoring mojo onto the second line. Nice!

If he has a breakout game, can all his new fans be referred to as Pitlickers?

A home game? Wow, it feels like it's been months since we've had one of these.

With the long breaks between games I’m having a hard time staying engaged with the NHL/Flames this season. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even look at the scoreboard/schedule any more. Hopefully that changes with tonight’s game.

Pitlick on the second line nicely illustrates how awful our RW depth is. Yikes.

I am with you there. The wind has really been taken out of my sails for this season. Hard to get excited with the uncertainty of games being played.

Pretty sure someone told me they scored like 2nd liners also

But I agreed with you
If they put Mangiapane with them ... maybe even Dube than they'd be a second line.

The way things are built though there isn't a 2nd line.

Coleman and Backlund are certainly not scoring like second liners but they're only a few points away from doing so.

Based on production / 60 the Flames break down as follows

1st Line
Gaudreau
Tkachuk

2nd Line
Lindholm (1 point short of top line)
Mangiapane (1 point short of top line)
Lucic
Dube

3rd Line
Coleman (1 point short of 2nd line)
Backlund (3 points short of 2nd line)

Then a huge drop off.

Don't think you can say that without actually seeing it.

If you say screw the bottom six, and build that line how many more points would Backlund and Coleman have at this point if they're weren't lined up with one of Pitlick or Ritchie?

Guessing the production pops enough that they'd be an average second line.

It's pretty apparent that the strategy is to try to get ahead early and just strangle the other team down with possession and good team defence. After the first line WOOF that's a lot of grinder/defence minded guys playing higher in the line up on this team then they would elsewhere. But as usual, in Sutter I trust. Might not make for exciting hockey but as long as we gain points in the standings I'm happy.
