I doubt anyone would want to pay $21,000 to get the rights to the seats for concerts in the nose bleed section.

The only way this could work is if it was mandatory to own the seat licence to have Flames season tickets. And it would only work if there was serious demand for those tickets. The demand simply isn't there. I own 4 tickets, I can't see me kicking in $84,000 to hold the licence for those seats. It would simply drive away the season ticket holders.

Most places that have done PSLs in N.America have tiered prices, much like the tickets themselves. So PLs would be different from Chrysler Club seats.

And also the common setup here is that PSLs are required to buy seasons tickets. Some places you lose your PSL if you don't buy tickets that year (most people just re-sell PSLs or tickets to avoid that). Basically as the name implies, you need a license for the seat before your can buy seasons.

And ya, all of this is predicated on there being sufficient demand that people would be willing to pay $X for that right. Given we can't sell out the dome, let alone a material increase in cost, its unlikely that'd work unless the price was low enough (which then defeats the purpose of raising a good amount of money).

I'd almost see a European club model (debenture) working better here, because there it is structured more like a legit bond that you'd buy to help support your team and get a financial interest in the team (which has added bonus of increasing engagement, etc). You get annual interest, but more commonly tickets, or savings in in lieu of cash interest, but its a common way of raising cash over there.

That money would only be for rights to your seat.
Sorry for any confusion; I was floating a different model. If you knew that you had great seats for every event in the new stadium for the all in price…what’s that worth? That’s where I was going rather than just a seat plus the costs for events on top of that.

You could even throw some ownership percentage in there somewhere as a small incentive. There’s lots of different ways but it has to be appealing for all.

Getting the people who are using the seats to actually pay for the seats.

How novel.

It's how things are routinely done in big markets. Calgary is not a big market.

I was being sarcastic. The answer to the building issue is to remove the city from the entire discussion, and have the Flames build their own building. They charge a fee on each ticket sold to cover the financing payment for the building.

Done.

not counting the hockey tickets, each seat fee would probably be $10K per year.

I repeat: That's how things are done in big markets. Calgary is not a big market.

There's a reason you don't see deals like that in small markets. Selling the tickets for high enough prices to support an NHL payroll is hard enough already. Adding a fat charge to pay for the building is a non-starter.

I mean you could buy just the edge of the seat, but here in good ol Flames Country, you'll never be able to use it.

This concept would easily fly. Demand would be solid.
