Probably misses about 1/3 of his potential career. That’s pretty significant.
He played in 12 NHL seasons as it is. Highly unlikely he was going to stretch that to 18.

He had a very good career, and a pretty long one. A lot of goalies are done at 35 without major injuries. Even Kiprusoff retired at 36 and was pretty shaky that last year.

Pretty shaky?

I viewed his last year as bizarre, more being simply unmotivated. Kind of like a #### you to the team blowing it up and deciding against contending, and to a coach who had him proving himself and tracking faceoffs on a clipboard than a marked deterioration of ability. I saw his last two home games against Detroit and Anaheim, felt he was motivated for the fans and wanted to leave something behind.

He wasn’t shaky, he didn’t give a ####. I get it. And when he knew it was his goodbye, he just happened to be lights out

More importantly, sad to see Bishop have to hang them up

But he has nothing left to prove. His accomplishments and numbers are matters of fact

.621 point %, .921 sv%

Kudos, Ben

There’s 9 guys older than him playing right now. He played 413 games, Kiprusoff played 624… about 1/3 more.

I have no doubt in my mind that based on the quality of play Bishop was able to reach, if not for injuries he’d be playing well into his late 30s and would easily flirt with 600 games. He might be 35, but he hasn’t played since he was 33. It’s a great career cut short, no doubt about it.
