He never played a shift in the third last game right? Might see him or Richardson get a game off?

I'd like to see both Richardaon and Pitlick sit to be perfectly honest. Heck sit the whole line, call up Pelletier and Phillips.

Pelletier - Backlund - Mangiapane
Coleman - Monahan - Lewis
Lucic - Ruzicka - Phillips

But why tho? If nothing else I wouldnt think you'd want to touch Looch's line. They've been giving far more than is being asked of them.

I suspect he got hurt and Sutter didn’t want to mess up the other lines by rotating people thru the 4th line.

No his line was on for the last minute goal in the 2nd and Sutter wasn't happy.

It will be a long while before Phillips ever gets a sniff. A “no fit” with this rendition of the Flames.

That ain’t Sutter’s MO. And Pitlick missed practice indicating he’s hurt.

Especially with Gaudreau and Mangiapane already on this team.

Can't have 3 small guys on your team, you just can't. I think it's why they didn't bring Ryan back.

Pelletier fits the pressure checking system, I sure don’t know about Ruzicka and Phillips doesn’t at all.

IMO Sutter thinks he has the top 6-9 guys to get him his three goals. He wants the bottom six not to cost him 3.

That line was already touched last game. Looch was on the second line with Mangiapane and Backlund, and Lewis was on the third line with Monahan and Coleman.

I would sit Pitlick because he hasn't been effective. Just doesn't seem to be getting the chances, even Lewis has been better and he's washed up. I wouldn't say he's outright earned a benching but it's worth seeing if someone more capable can bring more to the table as 4RW

I would sit Richardson because he is outmatched most nights. His line has been more offensively productive than I would have ever expected, but that doesn't look sustainable and they tend to struggle with breakouts most nights.

lol

if Mangiapane is a "small guy" then the defending champs had more than three

I wonder what Darryl Sutter does on a Saturday night in Vegas. Maybe goes for a nice steak somewhere?

He is a small guy as much as you don't like hearing that. Him and Gaudreau even have an ongoing joke about who is smaller.

He is an exaggerated 5'10. That is pretty small in hockey. I'd probably guess his real height is 5'9.

He does play bigger than his size but he is a smaller player.

Out of curiosity, which hotel do the Flames stay when in Vegas? And for away games, all players and management get their own hotel rooms?

Again, it doesn't matter. This arbitrary limit of "two small guys" is just that - arbitrary.

Gourde is 5'9"
Johnson is 5'8"
Point is 5'9"
Kucherov is 5'11 but not as thick as Mangiapane. He's not far off from the same size as Dube.

so again, the idea that you need to be six feet tall to play on a good team is not based in actuality.

Gaudreau and Mangiapane have been two of the best players in Sutter's system, while Monahan and Zadorov are two of the least effective thus far (hopefully Monahan starts playing more like that last game more often). Our best defenseman this year in Sutter's system is also our smallest.

I'm more skeptical of Ruzicka's ability to play at NHL pace than I am Phillips' ability to play at NHL physicality. He's a strong kid with a great motor.

Well that's a different argument than "lol ,Mangiapane isnt small"

This was a good article written on him talking about his small size.

Also, the lightning got swept one year then went and got bigger because they realized they were too small in the bottom 6 and won 2 cups. So maybe you can win with a few smaller players but is Phillips gonna play in the top 6? No chance so not sure where he'd fit.

Tanev is not the best defenseman on his pair. It'll take a while for perception and veteran bias to catch up to reality though.
