Why would Tkachuk sign early?

Does it leave enough on the table for when Quinn's contract is over?

Because he was overpaid significantly for what he has shown so far. He also isn’t signing that early he is in his last season of his ELC this isn’t a start of the summer deal

How many comparable players have signed better deals lately?

Well of course. He's played 2 games this season due to injury, so whether he signed in the summer or now isn't making much difference.

The idea is I wish the Flames would have *overpaid* for Tkachuk after his sophomore season, hoping he has room to grow into a new contract and play above the AAV. That's literally the entire point of what I'm saying.

I get it but when we look at Matthew Tkachuk and the way he has carried himself he just doesn’t seem like the type that would have entertained it. I think Tkachuk was more than happy to let Matthews help set the market for his RFA class.

While it is a nice idea I don’t think it is realistic that it was really possible. That is my point

When you put it that way it’s hard to argue with your logic.

This is going to be a very team friendly deal in years 6-8.

He is the real deal.

You could say the same thing about a one year $10mil contract. Pretty well set up financially.

This contract is still (looking to be) team friendly now and long term.

Outstanding? 11 goals and 20 assists in 56 games isn't $8m outstanding to me, he would have been 6th in scoring on the Flames and we didn't exactly have a banner year.

This could very well become one of the best deals in the league. At worst it will likely be fair.

I'd rather bet on him reaching his potential than overpaying (forgive the term) a post apex player.

From people that watched him on a regular basis, I read that he's going to be worth the money in short order. and heck, look at his charts.

Seems to be a really good bet by the Devils.

crazy how deals go these days. 120 gp a total of 55 pts (I get that there is likely a lot more to his game).

That's for sure. I don't see a scenario where Gaudreau doesn't get $11 million on the open market based on the current market. I think he'd take $10 million (10x8) to stay in Calgary.

Thought this deal was interesting to look back upon with the Devils in town tonight...

Hughes now has 46 points in 40 games with NJ this season and truly looks like the No. 1 centre the Devils hoped he'd be when they took him first overall.

He's gonna be the biggest obstacle to a Flames win tonight.

Apparently people haven't been watching Hughes this year... well, you'll probably get to see where he's at tonight. He's a game breaking talent and I think this is going to be an excellent contract for the Devils more or less immediately and for a long time.
