Never forget Gulutzan's signature Brouwer play. What a painful time that was, and I was a fan of the rest of Brouwer's career too before that disaster.
Troy brouwer plays on the same team as my female teammates boyfriend. They play div 1 and div 2. He's quite nice in person and he makes everyone look like pylons, lol through it's rec league hockey not the nhl. Congratulations on a awesome nhl career.
I met him this summer and he was a really cool guy and super nice. I get why people want to dislike him because of how things went with the Flames, but I thought he was just a hilarious and fun person. I had high hopes when the Flames brought him in, and unfortunately it just didn't work out.
As with James Neal, after he signed a large multi-year deal he instantly became a fringe NHL player the moment he set foot on the ice for the Flames. It's why I am totally against signing non-elite players at 30 years old to contracts longer than two years. You need to fill those positions from within your system as the league is littered with busts like Brower, Beagle, Roussel, Backes, Ladd, etc. Unlike those players Coleman for example is still a player but that contract is looking pretty bad already as if he has any sort of decline from where he's at now it's a disaster.
Spotted Troy at Vancouver airport a few months back (with his dad maybe?). Dude was pretty ripped...I imagine he was hoping for one last shot at a PTO somewhere before hanging them up.
The way this guy got s*** on when he left town always rubbed me the wrong way, highlighted most notably by that awful Sun headline. Brouwer was certainly post-apex but we’re willing to excuse most other players on the team on the basis of poor coaching so you have to think that things may have gone a bit differently for him with someone like Sutter at the helm.
