Has anyone ever seen the species that is native to southern Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC?
When I was a kid, a friend and I were camping on an island on Lake of the Woods in Northwestern Ontario and I swear we saw some, however it is supposed to be outside of their range. I really want to go back there one day to look and see if I can find them again.
Not to easy to find, they are only about the size of a dime and I have never found one. On the plus if one stings you they say it's less painful than a Bee due to how small they are.

Yeah, the ones I saw were tiny as well. I lifted up a rock and thought they were spiders at first until I looked closer.

This is not coming from a place of judgement at all, I genuinely find it funny to think about, but it's bizarre that the cause of suffering essentially frames our entire reaction to it.
"450 people injured and some dead as a building collapses" - Oh no, how horrible
"450 people injured and some dead as a tornado rips through a town" - Oh no, how horrible
"450 people injured and some dead as scorpions attack." - LOL rock me like a hurricane right!
Our minds are strange.

During my brief stay in the Negev Desert in Israel, I was warned to always shake out my shoes before I put them on in case there was a scorpion in them. Which is when I knew it would be a brief stay.
I was at an underground archaeological dig in the Negev. I was sitting on the ground in the line passing buckets of dirt when I looked down and one of these little bastards is about a foot from my leg. I jumped up and squealed like a pre-pubescent pig while doing the cowards version of the Heisman pose. One of the locals casually walked up and crushed it with a rock.
When I lived in Australia we made sure that we always shook out our shoes. Never had a scorpion but there were some nasty spiders.
