It's close. This year they're 2-8-0. In 1941-42, they started the season 1-8-1, which is their worst start in the NHL.
The Habs' worst starts ever were in the old National Hockey Association, in 1909-10 (their first season) and 1914-15. Both years, they went 1-9-0 in their first 10 games.
So yeah, worst start in 80 years? That's close enough.
